    Selection of Anchor/Rode for Gulfstream

All the science and practical experience I'll ever need to know about anchoring was in "The Complete Anchoring Handbook" by Alain Poiraud. Many factors go into staying put on any bottom in any weather, including seabed characteristics, wind, waves, currents, etc. and this book covers them all in...

Gulfstream F250 Propeller - Must Read

BJB, The new prop is a stainless Quicksilver, made by Mercury. Using the stock Yamaha 17 pitch I was only able to make 5,700 RPM and occasionally 5,800. Now I can hit 6,000 very quickly. Initial fuel consumption tests show roughly a 33% improvement. I'm now getting better than 2 mpg. Makes...

Gulfstream F250 Propeller - Must Read

Paul, Like you, I envy the lucky guys in Florida. I boat in Maine where I believe the waters are pretty similar to yours except for July and August when we typically experience perfect weather. I've not read of any specific Gulfstream experiences with the new 300. To be honest, I was almost...

Gulfstream F250 Propeller - Must Read

Legend, yes, Yamaha recommends max 6,000 RPM and that's what I'm getting WOT. I understand there's a limiter that kicks in at 6,200 and hope to never hit it. Paul, yes, we're still running at relatively high RPMs to get much speed out of the boat. With a hardtop, full curtains, bottom paint...

    232 with single?

    In agreement with jrem. We have a hardtop, full curtains, bottom paint, "normal" load, 15 3/4 x 15 stainless prop, and here's our figures: 22 knots @ 4,300 RPM 25 knots @ 4,600 RPM 30 knots @ 5,100 RPM 34 knots @ 6,000 RPM (WOT) With my factory 15 1/2 x 17 stainless prop we burned 70-80...

    232 with single?

I'm happy with my single F250 especially from a cost perspective (fuel and maintenance). I agree that close quarters handling is difficult. Trimming the motor way up when reversing is imperative. See my latest post about props - it makes a huge difference in performance.

    Battery life

I replaced the batteries on my 2005 about two years ago. They had solid readings but had increasingly short usage times. I went with AGM batteries, which were a bit more expensive than others, but have been delighted with their performance.

Gulfstream F250 Propeller - Must Read

All, I have been reading a lot about props on this forum and others and decided to try a new prop because my single F250 Gulfstream struggled to get on plane with a full load. I had heard a lot of good things about the "Prop God" and decided to call them. The owner spent several minutes...

Anyone using fuel meter with F250 and Raymarine C80?

Searching this site yields a ton of hits on fuel flow meters but there's much confusion about connecting to Raymarine. Calls to manufacturers are answered noncommittally. So, I thought I'd ask specifically: Is anyone successfully using a fuel flow meter with a Yamaha F250 and connected to a...

    283 CANYON

I don't have a lot to add to this conversation, but always feel compelled to chime in when someone is considering Raymarine products. I have the Raymarine C80 with sonar and radar and it's been nothing but trouble. The system often reboots or the sonar quits and requires restarting...

what was your worst thunderstorm experience?

Neat stories from all. Growing up in Miami and fishing the gulfstream just about every weekend provided me with some similar experiences. But lately, all I can say is that my Sirius Weather Radar is worth its weight in gold. Even up here in Maine I wouldn't boat offshore without it.

    Boat Transporter DE --> NY

Have you thought about cruising the boat home? Millsboro to Montauk is about 200 miles, so depending on where you live on LI the distance should be shorter. I'd be happy to make the trip for you. Should be cheaper than over land. Larry

trip from Cape Cod to Boston

I'm in agreement with Fishtales. We've run our Gulfstream from Bar Harbor Maine to Nantucket and the Vineyard via the canal. The boat can handle that trip with ease in just about any weather you'd dare go out in, especially with all the safe harbors along the way. Just pick your weather days...

    full fuel tank

yes, we drain all the gas from the engine before storing. the water in the e10 rusts anything it touches. thanks for the tip.

    full fuel tank

I have just relaunched so this info is fresh. I left about 20 gallons in my main tank over the winter with plenty of stabilizer. Not trusting some of the local marinas that store their gas all winter, I added 60 gallons of fresh "shore gas" from a local filling station that sees lots of...

    Rod Holder Suggestions Please

Hi All, I need to add more rod holders and I'd like them to be up on the hard top. As you can see from the following picture, I can't add anything directly to the hard top frame due to the amount of overhang (about 12 inches). What have you guys done? Pics or links to products would be most...

Massachusetts to Vote on Mandatory PFD's.

We had a do-gooder try the same thing up here in Maine last year. Everyone just has to be vigilant in making sure our voices are heard when things like this are put before our legislators. I wrote the bill's author and said it was a fine idea but while they were at it they should require...
