    High Water Alarm

I bought mine at Hamilton Marine, a local shop, for about $70. The Johnson web page lists retailers by state. I put the control switch right next to my chart plotter. Other than Test, there's two switch positions - Off and Armed. The intent is to leave the switch in the Armed position, which...

I have a nice dock in Sarasota you can share.....if you'll share your new boat! It must be awesome. Has it splashed yet? Mine goes in on Friday.

    4 killed in boating accident

Just installed a Johnson Bilge Alert on my boat. I especially liked the fact that there's no moving parts - I've seen float switches go bad too often. http://www.johnson-pump.com/jpmarine/products/bilge/bilgealert.html

    gulfstream

Jason, Then you've made the right decision - the Gulfstream is perfect based on on your criteria of "better built" and "more fishing room". Send pics of all the fish you catch! You can find many of mine at http://www.dafishing.com. Larry

    gulfstream

The Gulfstream is an excellent all around boat that serves well in almost all kinds of activities and conditions. Whether or not it's right for you depends on what you call "ruff stuff". The boat is very stable at rest and when moving slowly though anything over 2' of chop. Trying to cruise...

    1989 Gulfstream 230 Forward Bilge

My 2005 Gulfstream used to take on water in pounding seas until the rub rail was removed and the joint between the hull and the deck was completely resealed. This work was done by the dealer under warranty as it seemed the joint was never done properly. As it was explained to me, no efforts to...

    Mildew

Considering your original post where you stated this boat will be a "stepping stone" a primary consideration should be resale value and ease. This boat doesn't fit that criteria. I agree with the likelihood of a collision or impact of some sort. As for which engine should have counter...

    Counter rotating propellors

I've never skippered a twin with props rotating in the same direction so I can't give you firsthand knowledge. But I do know that prop walk from any prop can be significant especially in close quarters. And it makes holding a course more difficult. These are the two main commonly cited...

    Leaky Lower Unit

Working on something this important, and this expensive, seems to beg for a torque wrench set to proper specs. Anybody have experience with this approach? What would Yamaha's engineers suggest?

    1990 230 Gulfstream Deadrise???

Suggest you call Grady and tell them what you're trying to do. You'll get the correct deadrise and they may have other tips for you. Putting holes in the boat begs for all the expert advice you can get.

    New England Boat Show

We like the quality of the Pursuits, perhaps even a bit better than the Gradys. But in the end the Pursuits, for us, were just a little too pretty for the fishing we do (and want to be known for). Some boats look better with blood all over them, some don't. :)

    Profits on new Gradys

I believe the dealers have a 30-40% markup built into their retail prices. Anyone think otherwise?

    New England Boat Show

None of those models. As I understand, the big and the little are selling in this economy but nothing in the middle. They had just about every small model, every dual console, a Gulfstream, a Canyon and the 360. David, did I miss anything?

    New England Boat Show

Thanks for the correction, I'm sure it was just my brain refusing to accept that high an number. Agreed that Grady's personnel are excellent, any anything that make us look good in front of the wife is a great bonus.....

    New England Boat Show

Visited the New England Boat Show boat show in Boston with the Admiral yesterday. Not a whole lot new to see but it was good to crawl around on some boats instead of shovel snow for a while. Our favorite this year was the 37' Boston Whaler Outrage - truly a remarkable fishing platform. For...

    Washdown Pump - ongoing issue

Understood. The reason I ask is that we all seem to agree that something's fundamentally wrong here. I use my pump constantly April though November and it's still the original from 2005. Is your pump mounted anything like mine? Note their relation to the scuppers, which gives a sense of the...
