This is a guess, but does your cockpit deck drain into the splashwell? I'd start by checking to see where the hoses from your cockpit drains go. I'm not familiar enough with the 248 to know, but I do know there are boats that do drain the cockpit deck into the splashwell.

Do you have the Yamaha fuel management system? If so, it will only show gallons used, not remaining. You'll have to top off your tanks and do the math.

So did you do the automated radio check using the 504? If so, I'd guess the antenna is at least in decent shape since you were able to transmit. If you can transmit, you should be able to receive. I've never had that problem. From what I recall, the underside of the boxes are not gelcoated but there are no exposed fibers. Occasionally I'll take a spray bottle of bleach water and spray around inside there (and in the bilges), mainly to take care of any mildew.
