    Overhead cabin door nuts/inserts

2003 Marlin, I need a couple of the recessed nuts/inserts for the hinges in the overhead folding portion of the cabin access door, they seem to be the same as the inserts in the overhead electronics doors. Does anyone know where to find these?

    Picking up shade extension

This was our set up on our old trophy. 2" aluminum tubing in the rear rod holders and a $30-ish sun shade from Amazon. The whole thing was held together with bungies to cleats and rod holders. I wouldn't have trusted it up and running but it was supper simple to set up so we just took it down...

    Just wanted to say hi!

I can't wait to get her out, we love the 228 so I'm sure the Marlin will be amazing, she has an appointment at the fiberglass shop at the end of the month as long as current events don't cause a problem. As for towing I used to haul this fat bottom girl around in a previous life, the Marlin is a...

It took a while, but it finally happened.

You should see prices in the Pacific Northwest, they've been out of control for a long time. My father-in-law was looking for an early 90s 228 Seafarer back around 2005. He couldn't touch one locally for anything less than $30k. After month of searching locally he ended up buying a well...

(Need Bottom Paint Ideas) Tinting Interlux VC Performance Epoxy

Just as a little FYI for everyone, I emailed Interlux today and they said they strongly recommend against tinting VC Performance Epoxy as it may alter the curing process. So I guess I'm back to either contrasting whites or black bottom paint

    Troubleshooting approach

The in-law's boat has that same style sender and I believe the engine is a 2003?? I believe it runs on NEMA0183, you'd be surprised at the crazy adaptors and converters available if you're willing to do a little digging. I rigged a boat not that long ago with new Furuno TZ touch screens, their...

    Troubleshooting approach

Again I'm not supper familiar with how Yamaha does things but the in-laws 228 Seafarer has fuel burn integrated into the Garmin unit via NEMA. I believe it uses the Yamaha fuel flow management and it works even when trolling on the kicker with the main 200hpdi ignition off. I'll have to look at...

    Troubleshooting approach

All accessory gauges other than a SmartTach (accessory speedo, fuel gauge, and any other accessory smart craft gauge) are (or at least should be if you follow the rigging manual) piggybacked and powered off the stbd engine harness. Since fuel burn is available on the smart tach (I wish my...

(Need Bottom Paint Ideas) Tinting Interlux VC Performance Epoxy

Edit: Since I haven't gotten any answers I contacted Interlux and posted their reply below. Now I'm looking for ideas on Grady colored bottom paint. The sandblasting left the surface just a little too rough to make wet sanding and buffing practical. I also have a couple air voids and the larger...

    Troubleshooting approach

I know all large computer controlled Mercury engines are shipped from the factory set as a starboard engine and the installer has to configure it as something else, so any engine accessory device that is controlled by ignition on power (gauges) is powered off starboard engine key up. I believe...

    Fuses are smaller?

Just for reference a lot of this stuff is also made by Blue Sea Systems and the couple of times I've dealt with them they have been supper helpful.

    Troubleshooting approach

Need a little more info on what isn't working...But I just "fixed" one on a friends Hewes Craft, the power wire was disconnected behind the dash haha. The illumination wire was still connected so the gauge would light up but the screen was blank, tucked my head under the dash and there was a...

    A Hull Lot Better

Ah, thanks for the clarification! What grits did you end up using? I've don't some buffing but I've never had a boat bad enough that it needed sanding...until now!

Update on engines....back to the drawing board lol

My current crazy idea is to get a livestock water trough and add a spigot to empty it. They are more expensive than a trashcan but they are a lot sturdier and are big enough that you can fill it and trim the engine into it once filled without much hassle. I've even got an idea on how to fill it...

    A Hull Lot Better

Dang looks amazing! Did I get this right, you buffed the boat using an orbital sander with a buffing pad? If your rub rail is REALLY bad, progressive wet sanding works really well too.

Update on engines....back to the drawing board lol

Big Yamahas are notorious for not pumping well on the hose. In my personal experience Mercury's pump pretty well, Suzuki's and Honda's will practically blast a hole in asphalt haha. But newer big Yamahas seem to struggle. My 300's don't pump worth anything on the hose, I've tried to run f250's...

Traction options for four legged sailors?

We tried a couple different booties after she recovered from her ACL surgery and she absolutely HATED them. The dogs are our kids and it was hard to watch her try and walk on them. Plus if you knew her personality it just wasn't a good fit. I know if I forced her to wear them all the time she...

Traction options for four legged sailors?

I work around Seadek, luckily haven't had to replace any yet but I've seen it go bad! With dogs, fish blood, and how much hell we like to raise with friends in the local marinas, there's no way I'm putting something that permanent on the boat!
