seafarer dilemma older 226 vs newer 228

Not considering power, I would probably go with the 228. But I own a 228 and may be biased in that opinion. The primary reason is simply having a full transom when drift fishing and 3-4 footers take turns at the stern. That and there's quite a bit of additional room; the other side of the...

    Raw Water Washdown Question.

I can't believe I paid $44 for basically a modified toilet plunger with garden hose fitting but it does the job for the livewell and raw water washdown plumbing...

    20 Overnighter- repower question

Re: 20 Overnighter- GPH & Tabs Bryan, indeed these guys know all the in's and out's of Grady's. Start a new thread with the questions and you'll probably get more feedback. But, IMHO, tabs are needed on any boat going offshore and many inshore. They allow you to level with varying loads of...

What's the Best Way to Sell a Grady?

I shopped very hard for my boat from late 2009 till' finally finding it in late 2010. 95% of people do not post enough pictures nor the right pictures. That's one place to start. The slam dunk method was a youtube video. There was an older, twin engine Grady where the owner did an...

    Abacos Trip suggestions

Boy that sounds like a great time. Post on how it all turns out, where you stayed, how the fuel burn turned out when you return. I hope to retire later this year and wouldn't mind making such a trip as well.

Which is best method to flush engines?

The manual (page 50) for my F250 says to flush via the flush fitting for 15 minutes right after engine operation in salt water.

    re-power

Read up on the Yamaha F250 and I think you'll like the reviews. I have the F250TXR and could not ask for better performance. From what I've read, most engines today are very reliable so you've got plenty to choose from.

    Boat selling question

It could be overkill but I did call and consider using a title company when I bought mine 1 1/2 years ago. I simply called a company in the area that recommended another that closes marine deals. There was only one person in the office that did so and she was very knowledgeable on the subject...

Pilot house mod house on 204c...

I guess it's the redneck up-bringing in me but I kinda' like it. Hey, he's rigged it so it can be comfortably used throughout the year. How many others park em' and cover em' when the weather turns cool; he's still crabbing and catching when others have called it a year. As a side note, I...

    Seafarer value

Interesting, lots of folks are looking but no one is saying anything? That is a desirable boat and the power is perfect. The negative would be not having a hard top which could be added by someone interested enough. It may be worth contacting a few brokers to get opinions.

WA, CC or DC for family/fishing use?

A little follow up experience from the last 2 days in my 228. According to the Yamaha Command gauge, we logged in nearly 250 miles in 2 days. Each morning the temps were 38-39 degrees and 52-55 degrees in the afternoon with winds approx 10 mph overall although they did kick up around noon...

    really need guidance

You reeeeally do not want to underpower your boat and anything less than a minimum of 200hp will do just that. 2 things come to mind if I were in a similar situation. 1 is the F225 corrosion issue; you can find deals good low hour F225's just because of the corrosion concern and association...

    Decision Time

After a white knuckle experience like that and the question is whether to upgrade or rebuild rather than quit, I would say upgrade to the 22'. If you get this stuff in your blood, staying away from big waves just isn't likely to happen.

    Running engine on flush hose

Great tip Capt Bill, I've been hooking up the hose 1st, then going to the muffs so everything is wet. That covers all bases, thanks!

    Radar mount

You're going to love that set up. I have the older BR24 radar with HDS-8's (2). I had a fabrication shop build a stand for my radar dome so it would have the optimum angle/height and couldn't ask for it to perform better.

Where to mount an EPIRB on a Grady?

Actually yes if I had mounted a Cat I not realizing what it takes to deploy from the bracket. One source I read directly from the user guide stated a depth of over 10' was required. I don't believe my hardtop would be 10' deep if the boat were to capsize. So there's the real possibility the...

Adding fluid trim tab pump 228 Seafarer 2003

Mine is newer with an F250 but doesn't do the sitting low deal. Have you checked for water in the bracket? Something doesn't sound right there.

    Adding a 2nd engine

Top shelf safety equipment with an epirb and sea tow/boat us towing subscription. Even a 2nd engine is not a 100% prevention from breaking down.

Where to mount an EPIRB on a Grady?

Thanks for the feedback guys, you just saved me some $$$'s and mistaken security. I mis-read how the auto deployment operates so given my hull is designed to float, it's very questionable whether the CAT I would even get deep enough to deploy from the bracket. Just so I clearly understand, the...

Correct fasteners for a swim platform/ladder

One thing I see done far to often is cutting off bolts/screws to length. Try not to do that as the exposed cut metal surface will rust; I've changed out probably 20-25 screws on my boat over the past month just fine tuning everything.
