At idle and low RPM my port engine tach works fine. At high RPM and higher RPM cruise it often "bounces" or will cut out and go to "zero". Is the problem usually the tach, the connections or the sending unit on the engine? I have Mercury 250hp EFI Offshores. (2 strokes of course)

how many amps do you really need? I have 4 batteries in 3 banks. Two starters and two "house" batteries. I was thinking of switching out my charger as it is now 15 years old. I was thinking a Charles 30amp would be fine. Is there a better product and is 30amps enough?

The rubber has probably dried out. The complete rebuild kit is cheap. It took me less than 3 hours to take mine out rebuild it and re-install it. Not a hard job at all. If you are reluctant there products out there that "lubricate" the rubber. Try that and see if you can get it to work.

re:tower Make sure you get one that spreads the load around evenly. I had a tower on my Marlin and tossed it out as there is no need for one in the Northwest. The weight caused a lot of little spider cracks in the deck gelcoat but no deck softness. I think it's just too much weight.
