Vancouver Boat Show - Grady pricing

I was at the local boat show on Wednesday and had a good chat with the Grady dealer. New guy from last year, very friendly. Couple of notes. I saw the 290 and was asking about why they would bring out a new model so close in size to the Marlin. According to him the Marlin is so popular it's...

    Grady Sizing help

I have a question about mid-sized Gradys. A good friend of mine wants a new fishing boat. He prefers a walk around. His slip can only hold a boat of maximum 25' LOA. What is the 'biggest' Grady in that length. He likes to be comfortable and needs a head. Can this be done? Say 1995 models and up.

    Using Alcohol Stoves for Heat

Heater The heater you suggest requires electricity. I have the same model and run my genny for a few minutes and it gets the cabin very toasty. His issue is no genny. The alchohol stove throws decent heat and if you get the proper fuel I have never found a problem with fumes. Any time you...

    Panel replacement with Starboard?

I have a 1992 Marlin. In the helm area outboard of the seats is the area where there are the drink holders and open storage areas. The vertical panels below these are made of the melamine covered plywood material that Grady seemed to use everywhere back then. On my boat they seem to be very weak...

Survey: Is The Capital Meltdown Affecting You?

I'm a stockbroker in Canada. It's been tough here too but not as bad as the US. I just came back from a four day trip to Scottsdale and everyone there is pretty negative. Lots of "for sale" signs and lots of empty stores in the strip malls. In some of the developments, I don't think some of the...

    tach needle bouncing

At idle and low RPM my port engine tach works fine. At high RPM and higher RPM cruise it often "bounces" or will cut out and go to "zero". Is the problem usually the tach, the connections or the sending unit on the engine? I have Mercury 250hp EFI Offshores. (2 strokes of course)

    genset 1993 28' marlin

Kohler 5E In my 1992 Marlin I took out a Kohler 6.5 CZE and put in a 5E. I could not fit it in with the sound shield. I slightly modified the existing plywood base from the old generator. It fits but it's tight and hard to service. Sticking a generator under a sealed deck with poor access is...

This sounds like a fun trip

My backyard :) I have done about one third of that trip. Last summer I went the other way up Juan de Fuca on the west side as far as Flores Island (just past Tofino, near Hot Springs Cove) Fished Swiftsure Bank and Bamfield on the way up. Wonderful scenery and great fishing. Coming back...

    Shipping a Grady

Thanks for the tips Thanks for the tips. When I brought up my Marlin I took it through customs myself. The trailer is treated like a separate transaction. The problem I had with my trailer was the manufacturer went broke and I couldn't contact them for the engineering data to get it Transport...

    Grady dealer support in BC

LOL - My experience exactly I have an old (1992) Marlin. I live in Vancouver. Capstan has always treated me via phone, or in person, like "dirt". The only time they were ever pleasant was at the 2008 Vancouver Boat Show when I said I was interested in a new 33 Express. I haven't been able to...

    Shipping a Grady

I'm thinking about moving up to a 33 Express and it seems to be a buyers market. I bought my Marlin in Florida and had it trailered up by my dad who towed it behind his motorhome. I sold the trailer once I got the Marlin home. It seems that 95% of all Gradys stay on the east coast and mostly in...

    Warranties-

You have to ask yourself how many hours you are going to put on those engines before the extended warranty expires. I have seen a few analyses on consumer warranties and the only product where extended warranties work in favour of the consumer is on high end laptops. On every other product from...

    Replacing Battery Charger

battery charger The charger is original to the boat. (1992 Marlin) Mounted in stock location in behind transom inspection door. I had one "house" battery with one cell "cooked" dry. I replaced it and everything was fine but the whole system does not seem to be getting fully charged. I was out...

    Replacing Battery Charger

how many amps do you really need? I have 4 batteries in 3 banks. Two starters and two "house" batteries. I was thinking of switching out my charger as it is now 15 years old. I was thinking a Charles 30amp would be fine. Is there a better product and is 30amps enough?

    re:jabsco head

The rubber has probably dried out. The complete rebuild kit is cheap. It took me less than 3 hours to take mine out rebuild it and re-install it. Not a hard job at all. If you are reluctant there products out there that "lubricate" the rubber. Try that and see if you can get it to work.

    Low juice in "house batteries"

Probably a bad #1 battery Thanks for all the help. My diagnosis is a bad #1 house battery. I put it on the charger overnight last night and if it's dead I know I need a new battery. Our local West Marine can do free load testing so I may do that before I replace it. I have one question...

    Low juice in "house batteries"

All my batteries are relatively new. One of my acessory batteries is brand new. I was running yesterday and lost power to my GPS, VHF and Stereo. I noticed the cabin lights were very dim. I tried switching the accesories switch from 1 to 2. Cabin lights brightened right up but still no power to...

Adding a Tower to a Marlin

re:tower Make sure you get one that spreads the load around evenly. I had a tower on my Marlin and tossed it out as there is no need for one in the Northwest. The weight caused a lot of little spider cracks in the deck gelcoat but no deck softness. I think it's just too much weight.
