    Using a laptop for GPS

I used my laptop with Maptech offshore navigator and a Garmin USB antenna on our last trip from VA to Montreal. It worked great. I used it as a backup to the primary Ray unit. We never needed it but it was handy for the first mate to be able to watch our progress from the work table on the...

How often does everyone replace their batteries?

I personally don't want to get to that stage. Your choice. Battery selections are few and it gets expensive shopping for batteries in the Bahamas. I'd rather plan for no failures.

    Bottom Paint every Year?

Two coats of Interlux Micron Extra with Biolux will last about 16-18 months in Florida on a boat left in the water. If you have the boat hauled over winter, you should probably be able to get 2 seasons.

How often does everyone replace their batteries?

3 years on the starting batteries. It gets ugly offshore when you've been fishing all day only to hear the slow grind of a motor that won't turn fast enough to start.

Hard top mounts//What are they for? Pics attached

Looks like it is for a removeable cage - a platform with railings to site fish. It's easier to see down into the water from a higher angle.

    Anti-fouling on engine mounts

You can get an epoxy primer and Trilux primecoat that is designed for that very purpose. You have to remove the paint (wire brush or sand), then epoxy coat, then 2 coats of primecoat. Do NOT paint the zinc.

    Dual Battery Setup Question

Agree, either will work - most important to keep the starting battery charged.

    Dual Battery Setup Question

Being a 1993, I would suggest tracing all the wiring to see which is the house battery (electronices and livewell) and which is the starting battery (start and bilge pump). If they're mixed you should do some housekeeping. Then get an isolator and make the connections look like this:

Sorry, Swampy. It's supposed to be sunny and 85 degrees here today. Boat's already behind the truck - just waiting for a little light.

Question for Owners Who Tow Frequently

The money you spend now on a quality trailer is money you won't be spending later on repairs, break-downs, etc. I would also consider oil bath hubs as opposed to the grease type.

    HONDA GENERATOR

do you have the current draw and startup draw of the ac? The EU2000 is rated at 16.7 amps max, 13.3 amps rated. It will PROBABLY handle 8,000BTU but you need to look at the values closely including your raw water pump and anything else you're wanting to power.

    Buying a Grady

Dan: Good luck and tight lines with the new boat! Regarding your question about ring-free and yammi lube, I consider ring-free to be overkill, particularly if you keep to your oil change scedule and plug replacement interval. Ring-free = more yammi bucks. If you use the oil grade...

Geez, I envy you Fla and SoCal guys

If you look at history, the flurry of hurricanes in FL was an anomoly. I've lived in the NE (NY,MA), Mid-west (OH, IL), South (VA,GA,NC) and finally in FL. My vote is FL!

    Trailering Sailfish and Gulfstream

There's a lot more enforcement activity lately. But that's only one aspect. Consider your liability. What happens if you're towing illegally and some joker cuts you off, hits you or causes some other calamity. You're the one holding the bag. I realized some time ago that, even though my tow...

Bottom Paint Removal from trim tabs and actuators

Clean it. Then use Interlux 353 Vinyl Lux, dry for 1 hour, then 2000E epoxy dry for 8 hours, then Micron Extra with Biolux. Best protection you can get and can stand to be in and out of water without deterioration.

    Bottom Paint

Interlux Micron Extra with Biolux is a great paint. In warm Florida waters 2 coats properly applied will give me about 18 months. The wear is even. Make sure that your boat is properly prepped. If you're not sure what paint has been applied before, it's best to sand down to the barrier coat...

Compression test Yammie 225 4 stroke

Should this be done with the motor in the water or run tank? I assume doing it on dry land will ruin the water pump...correct?
