Adventure on Mohave Lake, water skiing

We did that trip two years ago, our RV is 32' and the boat is 27' on the trailer, just under the legal length limit on US roads. We found a place to pull off and did the tour of the dam - absolutely awesome. We kept on going and went around the lake about 50 miles to Temple Bar resort. It...

VAPOR SEPARATOR TANK / FILTER - MAINTENANCE

Here's another DIY how-to with pics. Although it's for a F225-250 if you can get your tank out I'm sure the rest of it applies: http://www.bogueinletnc.com/yamaha/8.html

    F250 Water Pumps

I'm starting to get the feeling the best flush would be with muffs with enough pressure to make it pee, run it long enough to get warm enough for the thermostat to open, or just remove the thermostat and use the flush port. I bought a plasic storage bin to run it in fresh water, but I still...

Use of Yamaha Ring Free - Good Results

Did my 100-hour service yesterday. Got a sand-blad plug cleaner and did the set that came out last time and put them in this time around. The ones that came out were spotless, and the piston tops were clean too. I'm going to keep using Amsoil PI. Updated the thread on waterpumps too. The...

    F250 Water Pumps

Yes, I imagine that might help. All of the tutorials say 'neutral'. I fiddled with the dang unit for about 5 minutes thinking I was going to have to drop it before my back gave out. It finally popped in. Works like a champ too. Took a few pics of parts. The first is the 300 hour impellor...

    F250 Water Pumps

300 hour service, first waterpump rebuild Update as promised...300 hour service with waterpump rebuild. Brought the boat home yesterday, my parts came, so tackled the pump impellor and rebuild last night. Without a hitch, no corrosion, no stuck bolts, no wear on the stainless parts and the...

Use of Yamaha Ring Free - Good Results

Oh no, not another oil thread... Bobp argues legal standing on warranty claims, others are just afraid, others argue the benefits of synthetic lubricants. It's a no-win. I only got the three year warranty on mine, and it's up. I don't know why they go back and forth on the...

If you bought a 208- later model vs 2000 era and a repower?

Wow, nice old boat. Buy a motor and get a free boat and trailer. Just as a side note, I have close to fifty in mine.

    Cabin Doors

Brady bunch style?? You crack me up! Sands, I don't know about the 'duratrim', if it was me and I absolutely had to have wood, then I would make them up out of teak. There used to be a plywood product with laminate on one or both sides. We used to use it on boats years ago in the...

    Cabin Doors

I would use them as a pattern and cut new ones out of starboard like the newer boats. Work it just like plywood. For a refinish owners have used all sorts of coatings, from penetrol to atf. I would try 303 on them first, but if they require a re-finish then new doors might be a good alternative.

If you bought a 208- later model vs 2000 era and a repower?

Welcome to the forum! Sounds do-able. If your water is really flat and you can make high-speed, then the bigger motor is an advantage. If it's choppy or large swells you may find you're not running over 25 or so anyway. The 208 is a great model, lots of room for it's size, and no...

    yamaha parts source central nj?

Yeah, I found a few e-tailers that were lower but decided to support him anyway for his efforts to the DIY'rs. They have a nice order site online now too with all the common stuff we need. If I would have known I could source parts from you I would do that...I just bought everything to do the...

    Bow Rail 208 Adventure

I would call your favorite grady parts source. I'm thinking they are in pieces just for that reason, and they can order you a replacement section.

    3 OR 4-Bladed Prop??

Jake, The four-blades are generally used for high-speed running, like for a bass-boat. At least that's my understanding. You didn't mention and I can't remember if you have tabs and/or a permatrim. Both will let you nose down at slow speed and punch thru chop while staying on plane. The...

Best single engine GW Walkaround Cabin

Re: Diving off a 208 That's funny. We used to do a ton of diving off a 10' Livingston dinghy. The fellow I bought my 208 from got at least a half-dozen dives off the boat over at Catalina. They used the foot-well in the cabin for tanks.

Looking for insights with horn problem on 208 Adventure

You could try cleaning the salt and corrosion out of it, just take the cover off. Sometimes some WD or metal protector will get them going again. Otherwise you just put a new one on, they're cheap. Any good marine supply will have them. There should be enough wire to pull the connection out...

    F250 Water Pumps

I just ordered the parts from SIM to do mine - about 290 hours on the clock. I'll post on my results and any difficulties. No issues with this motor thus far. Annual oil changes and gear lube, did plugs once - didn't need them. Kept the fuel filter changed, went to a racor with a bowl this...

Question for owners of USCG Documented Boats

We used to carve them into a deck timber. Hmmm...that would be difficult on a new Marlin I guess. The numbers do not need to be displayed on the exterior. In fact, you don't need registration numbers either on a documented vessel. The reality is you are registered with the country, as in...

    New boat prices

Welcome to the forum! Three years ago when we bought we were going to go new but found one less than 6 months old and save a ton. At that time a new one with F150, cushion and canvas package with trailer was $52K. There is probably about $2500 for transportation out to the west coast. My...
