    9/15/09 NJ bluefin report

Ran ouffshore with my buddy Eric to take advantage of the weather window before the blow were experiencing. Got out to our first spot about 40 miles off the coast and found lots of life and lots of bait readings so we set up on the drift. Had whales around us all morning, possibly 15-20 of...

    Hardtop Alignment

Ken, I feel liek my hardtop is on uneven as well, I decided not to measure because it will bother me more then. If I don;t know I feel better off because knowing will only make me mad! It is a shame something so simple cannot be done right, but then again I've seen guys first hand install them...

Fuel / water filter How many times a seaon do you change ?

Strike zone is right on, I place a plastic bag under the filter, and use a filter wrench to loosen it eough to spin by hand. I also shove a rag underneath to absorb anything incase I get careless, it really is a simple job.

    208 adventure

As far as winter storage, unless you plan to Completely!!! drain the fuel so nothing is present, which is hard to do, this is a bad idea, the less fuel the more water will form due to the air in the tank, your best bet is fill her about 7/8 or so, you want some room for expansion, and add star...

    268 Islander... Wet, Rough ride?

From my experience, the islander with its narrower beam was just an ok riding boat, does seem like your having more trouble then you should be though. It should handle the seas better then you seem to be experiencing, something does sound out of character from how you describe the ride. The...

    Trim Tab installation

As far as sealing thre hull, always use west systems epoxy to seal the exposed wood once drilled, then fill with 4200/5200, I would personally use 5200 below the water line but either works. Thru bolting would work best and allow the transom to stay sealed properly, crews might work but can and...

Auto Pilot Computer Placement 265 Express

I thought about the electronics box, but my AP specifically wanted the course computer low in the boat since it has a gryo, higher up will make the computer think the boat is turning at times and can make it seem choppy and over compute things, the better units have less of an issue for this...

anyone mount an arrigoni sampson post on a 208?

I know a few guys who have them, but they fish them from the cockpit. I do have some thoughts and things for you to think about before adding one to see if it will benefit you or not before you make such an expense. First thing is I'm assuming your going after bluefin tuna if your...

    greenhorn

As long as the hull is sound and in good shape, then there is no bad restore really as long as your willing to put the money in and keep the boat a while, you will likely never get anywhere near the value of what you put in when you sell so do not use that as reasoning ever to upgrade, do it...

Best single engine GW Walkaround Cabin

Personally never was thrilled with the ride of a single engine islander. Fished a few and they did the job, but were on the slow end, and the guys I know who had them all had blown engines before 1000 hr because the boat is slightly underpowered, if your going to be pushing a family around you...

    Teak

Sikkens cetol is the way to go. I used it on my older Grady and loved it, a lot less work then teak oil. I would remove it in the fall and sand down the teak and then give it 2-3 coats, the satin finish seemed to last 2 seasons with no care, just a rinse down with fresh water as I wash the...

Fuel / water filter How many times a seaon do you change ?

I use the 10 micron Yamaha filters, I get 100 hrs out of them or more, I believe Yamaha says change them every 100 hrs. If you use the boat enough and gas never sits you should not have issues unless you get a bad load of fuel somewhere. If your boat sits you might need to change them more...

    Bad vhf marine radio

I second having a handheld onboard with dsc, I bought a Horizon HX850S, it has built in gps, cost is roughly $250. It gets a gps fix in about 30 seconds and holds it. Great item to have on the boat incase the electrical system ever has a failure. Evenm used it this year when we blew a fuse...

    Eisenglass curtains and winter

If your using the boat, they are made for that purpose so use away. As stated roll them in a big circle or carry a blow drier and heat them to roll them if they are brittle, if they crack they are toast. The colder elements do tend to reduce the life of them, but usually that is more from them...

bluefin tuna off NJ 9/5 Report

Ralph, I'm hoping to get out mid week next week, looks like we might get a break in the weather finally. If not I might do some bass fishing, tons of schoolies to 36" fish around, worming at night is hot off the rockaways and trolling tubes in the early morning is good at the tin can grounds...

Gulfstream 23 water in bilge area

Small amounts of water are normal, you will get some water inside the hull from washing the boat, it will leak in in small amounts through rhe anchor locker, some salt spray on really rough days might find its way in there too, but were talking little amounts that over time might show as a small...

    Generator install on 282 Sailfish

I use a Honda EU2000i on my 265 and love it. Did an overnight at the canyon this season, ran my 5 LED spreader lights, Radar, GPS, and FF along with 2 VHF's, stereo, anchor light and went tthrough under 1/2 of a tank. It is fairly quiet, roughly weights about 75lbs and is easy to hook up. I...

bluefin tuna off NJ 9/5 Report

The further out spot, the bite has been dead on that inshore location shince roughly our trip. Bad news was right after I left it turned on there with the yft...the very few who stayed did get into them at about 4pm until dark. The further spot has been more consistent though, mostly early...

bluefin tuna off NJ 9/5 Report

Ran out on my buddy Steve's boat on Sat, got a late start and arrived to the grounds 40 miles off shark river inlet as the bite was turning off. Worked off the fleet and pulled some nice trigger fish and a half dozen mahi off a tree, and put 2 nice bluefin in the boat before deciding to head...

    Runaway Boat Crash

How does a sweel knock the captain overboard on that boat, I have riden on a bunch of 25 contenders, even a 5-7 ft wave out of nowhere won't toss the captain overboard, I could see maybe one passenger. Something surely sounds fishy hear...either they were being careless and messing around or...
