I agree with JKM, squirt a little WD-40 on the catch and around the pole, pull the latch back and give the top of the pole a smack with a dead blow rubber mallet. It worked on mine.I also made a rod holder that clamps to the pole.

One of the guys at my marina just got a Canyon 271 this past year and he loves it. It is a beautiful boat and has made many trips out to the canyon for tuna. Good luck with it, enjoy!
