    What would you do differently?

Read your manual for the boat cover to cover. And probably the engine manual too. leave a case of waters on board too maybe a box of granola bars. And sunblock, even if you don’t need it, someone will. For PFDs I like the smaller kayak style but many people like the auto inflatable pfds since...

I have a Bernina - it’s vintage but pretty quality machine. Got it for $100 on CL and has worked on a variety of projects so far.

    Rope Splicing

If you decide to try yourself, can make it easier with a proper fid size. Get the splices as tight as you can. Use a hot knife to cut the line and use electrical tape to keep the strands tidy. When I cut line, I wrap with tape first then cut straight through the tape and line with a hot knife...

    trim cylinder cap/seal

I’d try a good penetrating oil (kroils brand for example). Rig something to catch any parts below you that might drop (like an upside down umbrella or tarp, also an oil pan for any oil drips). Bring a good lever to help you. Secure your boat so you are as stable as possible on your feet. Good...

Outboard trim hesitates before working properly

Yes there is a reservoir for the oil. I use atf. Your seals for the pistons may need to be replaced, or periodically you may have to fill up the reservoir.

    Bow Pulpit Fiberglass Cracks...

You could do it yourself, many posts on here for that if you search. if I can interpret your fiberglass guy a bit liberally - he is too busy right now to take on any jobs that aren’t a few thousand dollars…I don’t know how closely he looked at it, but anyways, take a knife and stick it into the...

    Scupper screen to prevent clogs?

    Considering pre-2000’s Overnighter

Depends on the prior owner(s) and how it has been treated. Ask how long they have had it and how they used it… trailer or slip… who has done the maintenance…what issues are currently known and what issues have they fixed. Etc survey is a good step and it will likely provide you some...

Mooring Tricks To Keep The Gulls Away

Get a large net from an army navy store. Cut to shape of your boat. Use bungees to put the net over the boat on the mooring. Roll away and stow when in use. Gulls won’t like the net flapping around their feet in the wind and will find a neighbor

    Basic Canvas/Upholstery -

I’ve done some minor sewing projects. Kind of a fun challenge. Get UV resistant thread and a good sewing machine. Sunbrella can be cut with a hot knife to seal seams. Sailrite website has a lot of helpful videos.

My New Grady White Overnighter 204c

4200 is gooey. Gravity will have some effect but mostly it’ll stay in place. Use painters tape to contain the mess and provide for an easy clean up with a utility knife. By counter sinking the drill holes you are providing a place for the 4200 to create a gasket to seal the hole (and prevent...

Sorry to hear but don’t despair. Anything on a boat is repairable. If you are handy and up for the work it will save a lot of cost. Any friends that might be willing to help you?
