    Repowering

Consider the torque differences between the 4cyl vs 6cyl. The Merc 200 has more than the Zuki. Depends on what you care about. Has been heavily debated in other posts so you can search and find more details and info. For me, the closest HP to Torque and weight comparison is the Mercury 200 vs...

    Draining the Drive bracket

I had an update to this issue I finally resolved the issue with leaking water into the bracket. Maybe I posted on another thread, but for this thread, the solution for me after all the sealing with caulk and still getting water, the culprit was the inspection plates on the top of the bracket. I...

    Water absorption in swim platform

Do it right. Remove the platform, cut the skin off bottom and remove all the balsa in there. Replace, reglass and you will carve off unwanted weight and get more strength. There are some links on here where some of us including me have done this already. I cut 60#'s off my platform once I...

Water level - scuppers - new engine

Each boat is different. I had added 2 more Group 31 batteries for a total of 4 in the bilge area when I got the boat and it did lower enough that when I stood in the corner rear, water would come up some in the scuppers. I added about 50#'s in the bow, plus added Lewmar windlass and 600' rode...

What's a great hard water spot remover

Bronze wool will get the job done and help to polish the glass at the same time. I never had any luck with any of the suggested chemicals.

    Backup bilge

I installed an additional Rule 2000gph in the bilge with the float switch higher on the same shelf my oil tanks sit on. Probably 3 or 4 inches above hull bottom. I made a PVC shelf and used 5200 to seal it to the floor. Sanded floor, wiped clean with acetone to give best bond. The PVC is easy to...

    Hypothetically..would you rather

I went from a 20' bowrider to the '92 252G Sailfish. I love the layout and this series years model. I tow with a Ford Excursion with 6.8l V10 engine rated to tow 11K. It does a great job in the Carolinas, not too hilly. However, this Sailfish is a beast to tow. I love the towing, to me it is...

    Trailer tires

Well folks, got the GY Endurance tires installed! Hoping for another 4 years + trouble free for tire issues! Had to take the tires off and take into the store due to it was raining and they wouldn't go out in the rain, but I did it myself. Could change a tire in about 5 minutes using the...

    Auto pilot hardover

I wonder if there is a way to place some type of small diameter spacer on the ram so that it limits how far it can move to full extent? Like maybe an O-Ring or something, but prefer something that could be installed without dis-assembly. Something that would clamp on the ram for example.

    Auto pilot hardover

My Lowrance pilot one system does the same thing. Once it goes hard over, it will get stuck. Just thought that was part of the hydraulics angle of the tie rod. Just a manual turn of the wheel, it will unstick and not have any issue unless it has to go hardover again. Only does it on one side...

    Radar mounting on hardtop pics

Be careful how high you mount it. In my case, I am hitting trees with it constantly so have to choose carefully what roads I drive on. Anytime you start to get up around 13' or higher, you are high risk for losing or damaging your radar.

    Trailer tires

Damn nice rig! I have family in Richmond area also. Been a long time since I have been there. Go to Lexington/Wilmore at least once per year.

    Trailer tires

Yeah, the Marathon sounds familiar. My rig is so heavy, I have to stay very diligent on tires and hubs. How many years do you go before changing KY? By the way, I am from Lexington originally. I would have never thought to trailer a boat to the coast from there back when I lived in Ky. Those...

    Trailer tires

I re-read Smoky's experience and know Ky tows a lot, so will definitely go with the GY Endurance this time around. I do know GY has the knowledge to build a great trailer tire. Back in 1986, I bought a 20' boat/trailer that had those stupid balloon style tires on the Rolls Axle trailer. Forget...

    Trailer tires

Good to hear that KY! I have been checking reviews and seems some folks having issues with some bulging tires, buts seems most complaints were within the first 200 miles or so. I am pretty sure I will go for the GY's this time as I just found them $50 cheaper on discount tire online. Just need...

    Trailer tires

Well, seems it was time again to face the dreaded tire change! I know they say to change your tires every 4 years. I knew I was close being 3.5 years now on my new tires that came on the trailer. Running this weekend to the coast which is about 165 miles, I made it about 100 of those miles in...

    Boat Cover

Grey, I have same boat, without the tower but with Radar. I make a PVC support from bow to stern and put a 25'x30' tarp over it. By the way, what motors do you have?

    2000 272 Sailfish Motor Size

I have the 252G model with twin 200hp HPDI's and could not or would not want less HP and torque. The performance is outstanding! Out of the hole and on plane very fast, like 3 seconds even with full fuel/load and 49mph top end. I would love to repower, and the only 200hp option out there are...
