Cockpit bolster siaze on a Seafarer ??

Search for my post about them on here somewhere. I believe I used two 36" across the back, then a 36" AND a 48" going up the sides, and they all fit perfectly. It was inexpensive and a very easy install.

    Which Seafarer, 226 or 228?

I agree with the hardtop being a necessity. I'm also a big fan of the closed transom, and waited for one specifically when I was looking. When people fish with me for the first time, they can't believe it's a 22' boat. The "square" cockpit area leaves a lot of room to fish!

Cabin Bulkheads Use Wood or Starboard?

I've got to agree with Rainmaker. I used a piece of 3/4" Starboard to remake swim step and all the rodholders when I first got my boat. There's NO WAY that stuff isn't strong enough or "long-term" enough for the bulkhead. I've had it on 10 years already and it still looks and performs like...

Cabin Bulkheads Use Wood or Starboard?

Mine needs it too, and I'm planning to StarBoard.

Which Gradys? preowned Seafarer, Gulfstream or Voyager?

I agree with Wahoo that the 228 is the best 22 w/a there is. The layout is perfect, with lots of cockpit space, decent seating, and a cabin where you can lock stuff up. Personally, though I love my boat and have had it a long time, I don't think it rides that great. Mine is a pre-SV2...

Hydraulic Fluid for Yamaha Tilt / Trim

I replaced a seal on top of one my cylinders for $5 or something and it solved a nasty leak. Topped with ATF and perfect ever since.

    Marina Condo

New Port Richey is north of the Tampa Bay Area by about 30 minutes, just over the line into Pasco County. We have wonderful Anclote Key right outside the channel for beaching/shelling/sunning etc., the Intracoastal Waterway to our South for cruising all you want, and loads of inshore and...

    Marina Condo

We own a condo in New Port Richey, FL, and keep the Grady on a lift. I have seen some 1 bedroom places sell for just over $100K. There are 2/2 units available with slips (that's what we own) but they're more money, of course. Probably some "desperate-to-sell" folks there right now. Our...

    1997 seafarer repower

Search for my old thread about adding a four stroke to a Seafarer. My tests showed no problem at all adding an F250 to my 228G. However, I ended up finding the issue with my 225 OX66 and didn't have to buy one. However, if I end up with troubles again, there will be an F250 on mine (and...

    Seafarer Questions, New Member

To stay conservative, I calculate 2 nmpg for my rig, but it does better than that. Older 228G, hardtop, OX66 225.

Florida Boat Tragedy: Question about radio contact off shore

In this particular instance, I don't see how the range of a VHF makes any difference. I live where this happened, so have seen more news than most (in fact, two of the news choppers are my tenants at the airport). These guys were capsized while attempting to pull anchor. They didn't know or...

    Towing weight for Seafarer 226

They may all be true, but if those items don't fail from towing a 22' boat (they don't), then who cares? Should we all use at least 1/2 ton pickups to tow a canoe? Overkill is just that; overkill.

repower 265 Express with suzuki 175?

I've got to agree with gradyfish on this one; stick to more power for that rig. Plus, anyone with a boat as good-looking as his must do something right (yes, I want that boat!).

    Towing weight for Seafarer 226

Actuallly, the OP stated already that he WANTS an SUV rather than a pickup. Me too. If I were towing the boat every day (even this relatively small boat), I'd want a big, heavy diesel truck too, but who does that? I need a vehicle that carries five people plus sports gear, luggage, dogs...

    Towing weight for Seafarer 226

I drove a Duramax, and WAS impressed with the power, and the noise was much better than other diesels. BUT, I have to disagree about the quality of the truck. I was at a an auto-show recently and pointed out to the sales guy that you could plainly see gaps between interior pieces, and you...

    Towing weight for Seafarer 226

I still tow my '89 228G w/hardtop with my '01 Sequoia. I'm sure I'm right at the published limit, since it's only 6500 pounds. Anyway, it does great; though I stay in Florida, too. Back when I was shopping vehicles and the Tahoe and Expedition had higher ratings, I compared all the things...

    Replacement Helm Seats

I put the same seats that Catch22 posted in my 228G. They work great and really improved the appearance of my cockpit/helm area. The only issue I have is they are slightly wider than the stock seats I had, which makes for even less room between them. Also, the adjustment lever sometimes...

    Panel replacement with Starboard?

I replaced everything you mentioned with StarBoard years ago and haven't touched any of it since. The ony issue I've had was I didn't drill "oval" holes for the screws. This was mentioned by StarBoard to leave room for expansion/contraction. My longer pieces do "bow up" a bit when we get into...

    OX66 ???

I upgraded to one from a carbed 200 Yamaha, and it's been very good. It has considerably more power, burns less gass, is smoother and quieter; that's a lot of improvement for $3K! I know a HPDI or 4S would improve all those parameters further, but for the money I'm pretty happy. I had one...

    Cockpit Bolsters Availability

Boater's World has some aftermarket ones that are cheap and easy to install. I bought them online, but have since seen them right in the store.
