Possibly the dumbest question ever asked on GG?

Except... not in my case... My 1995 hull was manufactured in 1998... Granted that was a special case where the original hull was replaced under warranty so GW manufactured a new hull and gave it the original HIN of the now scrapped original hull.

    9/4/22 SoCal Fishing

That's what I use the port side livewell for... Pop a gill, throw the fish in and keep the pump running. That bleeds them out pretty well and the constant water change keeps them from sitting in a pool of blood. I was planning on going out next weekend until I saw the forecast. Yesterday the...

    Northern California albacore/Mahi-mahi

So that was you! My buddies up in Santa Cruz were telling me there was a dorado caught in Ft. Bragg right after I was telling them the dorado fishing down here was the best it’s ever been Awesome job!

So Cal fishing weekend of 8/27?

Yep... It's the only fish I purposely try to stick in the middle and not the head so they don't flop off the gaff. Here's a video from a few years ago of our stupid antics on a dorado that fell off the gaff inside the boat.... fishing rods falling everywhere... bait net falling overboard... me...

Good luck, you guys... Dana Wharf Sportfishing set a record for most dorado ever caught in 1 day at their landing today...

2 Rescued from the water in Boston Harbor - GW sinks

The end of that video states the boat was salvaged and hauled out of the water for repairs, so my guess is it didn't sink... Just speculating, but if the reason why the boat was taking on water was because it was bashing up against rocks, maybe they wanted to get away from that mess so they...

    8/7/22 So. Cal Mahi

You could launch out of anywhere from Long Beach to San Diego and be within the dorado zone in 30 minutes. If you launched out of Long Beach, you'd have the added bonus of a short run to the 100 lb bluefin zone off the east end of Catalina.

There is an amazing volume of dorado out there. Sounds like the zone hasn't changed much in a week. Nice work getting a few of them to bite!

West Coast Grady Norcal Tuna Success

Chickens!!! I miss those things in the south part of the state. I've always thought the 208 is one of the most seaworthy 20 foot boats there is, and a long offshore run out of Ft. Bragg supports that. Great work!

    8/7/22 So. Cal Mahi

They bit immediately on both baits in the water on our first drift, but one spit the hook on its second jump. Then they did not bite again for us no matter what we tried. They just would swim right up to our baits and turn away. Needed a spear gun! There were a couple spots of puddling YFT that...

    8/7/22 So. Cal Mahi

Got out with my dad yesterday for a local trip. Our choices were to run 40-50 miles for a shot at the triple-digit bluefin or stay local for a shot at the warm water exotics. We went with the more relaxing approach and launched late at 9:30am, picked up a half scoop of live sardines and made 10...

    off season repairs planning.

Just a thought... Maybe this is your forever boat, maybe not. I don't know. But I would question buying a boat that had removed the transom scuppers and would likely walk away not knowing what other weird things you may have done to the boat I can't see. So you may be hurting the resale value of...

Anyone live in socal and have a good boat repair shop.

Dana Point is a bit slim for boat shops. West Coast Marine Service in Costa Mesa is a pretty good shop, at least for outboard work. I've not used them for other services, though. https://www.westcoastmarine.com/

    Grady 208 Bow Rail Diameter?

I don’t know what to tell you. That type of caliper is literally called a vernier caliper, whether it’s SAE, metric, or both. No more bad engineering jokes from me. I’ve gotten lazy over the years because 95% of the time I use digital calipers at work. The other 5% of the time is my own...

    Grady 208 Bow Rail Diameter?

I was just making a joke because trying to determine 1.0 inches from 0.875 or 1.125 won't require reading the vernier, but that Harbor Freight caliper is exactly a vernier scale :) https://www.physics.hmc.edu/~physics50/wp/index.php/calipers/

    West Coast Bluefin

Your F150 is a little more efficient than my 175 carbureted 2-stroke. For safety factor, I always use 2.0 mpg for my planning calculations, but we typically get about 2.3 mpg. And I agree... I get real nervous when I've burned more than 60 gallons... though I've made it to 70 without stalling...

After they make their quick showing around the Channel Islands, they'll settle in at the Tanner and Cortez for the rest of the summer and fall, which is when I have my 2.5 day trip scheduled... fingers crossed... The farthest I've been in my 208 is about 12 miles west of San Clemente Island...
