Anyone tried, or heard of, a sharrow prop on a 228?

Planing is a result of the reactive force on the hull producing lift as it pushes through the water. As the speed increases, the lift increases until planing is achieved. If the prop geometry is such that it creates stern or whole boat lift, it then reduces the planing speed by effectively...

Installing LiFePo house battery on GW 2 + 1 battery setup

Turns out the info was easier to find than I thought. A isolated charger can be used in an unisolted application. The grounds are connected. For reasons I can't understand, the "experts" did not tell me anything about the need for fuses. They are on order.

Installing LiFePo house battery on GW 2 + 1 battery setup

Chris, Couple questions: I consulted BOE Marine technicians and purchased what was needed. No one said I needed fuses. Why are the fuses "recommended?" I'm wondering if it is an issue to link my batteries with a common ground? I would think this is not an issue, because ground is ground...

Anyone tried, or heard of, a sharrow prop on a 228?

I would disagree with the prop part of your statement. Props can have a significant impact on an outboard powered boat's attitude and planing speeds. I won't claim to know all the details, but many prop geometry details will impact this. Barrel length alone can have a significant impact.

Anyone tried, or heard of, a sharrow prop on a 228?

Lucky, Even with your oversized tabs, all that weight up front, and your engine tucked in, you can't plane below 21? I wonder if it is due to the setback/bracket? Our 248 had the short hull, but if I dropped the tabs and tucked the engine in, even it would plane and smash thru waves below 20...

    Why is mine so small?

Looks like the only direct connections I have to the batteries are bilge pumps, tabs, and windlass.

    Why is mine so small?

I'm reasonably sure mine only has one, although there is a separate fuse panel in the hardtop. I can't imagine they would wire that directly to the battery with no manual disconnect. I want to say the only 3 pairs of leads I have wired directly to the battery (other than engine related) are my...

    Why is mine so small?

Hmm. I guess as long as no one flushes the toilet at night, with the spreader lights on, the live well going, and someone washing the deck or washing hands, I'll be ok. I'm just surprised that GW didn't at least bump it up to 6 ga and give a bigger buffer on the breaker.

    Why is mine so small?

...the circuit for my main panel that is. When looking at my battery switch set-up, I was perplexed as to what wire actually fed the main panel. The wires to the batteries and engines are very heavy gauge and understandably so. The wire going to my main panel is only 8 ga on a 50 amp breaker. I...

Quite possibly the greatest invention in the history of GW boats

Let your buddy know he needs to be in Northern Ohio at the end of this week. Had I known it was that easy, I wouldn't have wasted all that time fitting this dumb board!

Quite possibly the greatest invention in the history of GW boats

An excavator wouldn't have worked in my case without chopping the back wall of the boat out, but if it gets the job done, bravo. I'm not too proud to use overkill if it makes life easier. In my case, simplicity seems to be the best solution for the time being.

Quite possibly the greatest invention in the history of GW boats

I'm open to a Nobel Prize nomination. Behold! It's a battery slide and works almost as well as scanning your credit card to have someone else change batteries out from this god forsaken bilge! It locks in place and is guaranteed to reduce cursing by 90% + when swapping out batteries. I'm happy...

Installing LiFePo house battery on GW 2 + 1 battery setup

Moving down from the "main" are 2 bilge pumps and 1 "memory". Would that be for the am/fm radio, or something else? I follow what you are saying, minus the "bus". Are you referring to the bus at the helm? If so, are you referring to the ground coming back from the bus? The 8 ga wire coming off...

Installing LiFePo house battery on GW 2 + 1 battery setup

Here is my panel. I think my house is powered off the 8 ga wire shown at 12:00 in the photo and attached to the "main" breaker. If that is correct, I'm shocked it is so small.

Installing LiFePo house battery on GW 2 + 1 battery setup

I've been wanting to do something similar for a while. I need to review your details more closely when it isn't so late at night! I think my starboard bank finally died tonight, so now is the time to do something. What I was considering was to use the smaller 18 amp Orion chargers, but one from...

    Nizpro Tune

I don't think anyone here has, but if you search THT, you will find a few. For those who use quality, fresh rec 90, there seems to be few issues. If you are one to do maintenance only when problems arise and only think about fuel when it runs out, you might want to pass on nizpro. However, if...

    Pursuit vs Grady vs Worldcat

Gradys of that vintage don't have wood in the transom. Pursuits seem to get better marks for fit and finish, but ultimately GW and Pursuit are about as similar as a GMC and a Chevy. Worldcat will probably ride better and be more stable. Likely a better use of space for a DC because of the...

    Grady 275 Freedom rolling issue

I played around with my engine trim this past weekend to replicate the complaints on the 270/275 hulls. Here are my $0.02: The reason for the list at speed is very simple. When dealing with a strong cross wind, the bow flare catches a lot of air and the front of the boat wants to rotate away...

Yamaha OX66 250 WOT RPM Searching?

While reliable in the sense that it will always get you home, the ox66 fuel system is it's Achilles heal. Make sure all of the usual culprits are addressed 1st. Then do a thurough decarboning treatment including the sniffer tube for the O2 sensor. If all of those have been addressed, as a last...
