    Spring projects...

Smokey, You're reading my mind, scary . I've trailered my 17' Whaler to the Keys dozens of times so I've had some experience(s) but realize this is a new animal. I bought the trailer new last spring, it probably has about 1000 miles on it so trying to decide if I should do them all now or...

    Spring projects...

I'm taking my 228 to the Keys the second week of April so I'm getting an early start. - Upgraded my batteries to (2) group 31 AGM - Removed both cabin windows, replaced gaskets and resealed - Replaced supper houses and deck fittings - Checked all the pumps, houses, and fittings. Found the...

    Group 31 Batteries in a Seafarer 228?

I tried the box model like Dennis suggested but they wouldn't fit. But, Optima's are narrower at the bottom and the transom angle gives me some room so decided to give it a go and they fit snugly against the back of the back of the Cockpit bulkhead like they were made for it. I had already...

    Scupper and Scupper Hose Replacement

I just replaced them in my 05 Seafarer 228 with the plastic ones from T&H Marine. I had to break both drains to get them out, not sure what I would have done if they were metal... The drains will outlast the metal ribbed hoses anyway so I figure 15 years from now the next owner can deal with it.

    Group 31 Batteries in a Seafarer 228?

Group 27's will probably be enough but I'd rather not have manually work the A/B switch like I do now. I like the idea of a dedicated high cranking starting battery and extended run time of a group 31 for house with no switching. The group 31 optima blue is very high cranking but seems...

    Portable bait well advice please

I made one out of a 45 qt RTIC cooler in my old Whaler. Used a 2" thru hull in the cooler for the drain and NPT for intake. It worked really well and served dual purpose as a cooler when I wasn't bait fishing and seat too.

    Group 31 Batteries in a Seafarer 228?

I'm replacing my batteries and that space under the aft seat looks like a tight fit so wondering if anyone has put 2x 31's in the same compartment? My T9 kicker is on the opposite side so need them both on the port side for balance. I first started researching the Blue Sea ACR, add a battery...

    Twin 115s on 228?

Seems really impractical unless you have some really specific use case. With the weight of twin 4 stroke 115's your back deck will always be wet, less economical, more maintenance, and if you lose one you won't be able to go much faster than with a T9.9 kicker, like most of us do.

    Toilet for 2005 seafarer 228

My GF is finally "rail trained" so I removed the porta on my 05 228 and use that space for storage.

Cabbin window gaskets? - Seafarer 228

Can anyone recommend a replacement gasket for an 05 Seafarer 228? When I removed the inner frame I can see daylight around the edge and the hole cut looks sloppy but rather than address that the previous owner sealed the window shut and I damaged the gasket when I tried to pry it open. The new...

Outriggers for a hard top 228?

If anyone needs a set of brand new Taco backing plates and wedges let me know and I'll make you a deal. The welded base supports I used negate the need for the backing plates and decided not to use the wedges because the screws I had were too short and didn't see the need.

    Miami and north

Correct. It's been a while but always remember referring to it as Pompano.

    Miami and north

Good fishing and less crowded out of Pompano inlet than Port Everglades but Pompano can get dicey when there's a big swell. PE can also get bad but small boats can usually hug the south jetty and head south out of the main channel to avoid the worst of it. Pompano is shallow and big waves...

Outriggers for a hard top 228?

I have a 228 with an after market top and went with the Taco 280 roof mounts and 20' Lee carbon telescoping poles. After much consternation and advice from this forum I had a welder to install the Taco base plates and additional support tubing, it is rock solid and highly advised. I can keep...

    228 transom rod holders?

The boat is a 2005 and there's plywood at least an inch thick sandwiched in glass. I'd have no concerns trolling 50's for tuna from that position. I didn't use a baking plate but I was able to get washers on them so they're really solid. Getting to the inner most bolt was tricky.

    228 transom rod holders?

I installed two Lee HD flush mount 90 degree holders in mine, right above where the back seat transitions to the bait well. Overall I'm pleased with it but the holders are a bit too long so the cushions are really tight now. When I was doing the install I seriously considered getting rid of...

    New enclosure for my 228

Yes, 3 snaps, one for each side and the front uses a single double side snap because they overlap when up. The sides need to bend so they don't touch the bottom of the outrigger bases, the fronts overlap a but because the windshield forms a V. I'm going to make a storage bag for the fonts...
