    Engine height Grady 228

Yeah, those are crap conditions, pretty square ocean. I'll try and get out soon and let you know how well the seaspension works. One thing I didn't get is you say with lots of tabs and engine trimmed forward you get spray coming in, I rarely see that but I don't go out in 4@4, that's too...

    1999 228 SEAFARER

Yes, my buddy Peter has that same year and he tells me it is in front of the main gas tank and behind the other gas tank. Pretty much between the helm seat bases, maybe a few inches back.

How yours is is how my 2020 came from Grady. My upgrades for ride are: A) get rid of the 9x12 trim tabs, they are way too small, replace with 12x18 (look at my post history, you can find pictures). This was a huge upgrade, before this swap, I had to slow down on the top 1/3rd of each swell so...

    Seaspension install on a 228

I'll take a look, right now I have two layers of that carpet I put in my boat, probably pretty similar. My problem is that my feet are screwed and standing and using my legs as shock absorbers (like everyone else does) is really tough on my feet. I need to be able to sit. Hence the...

Thanks for your concern, it actually means something to me. I seem to be getting better, there were lingering symptoms from the stroke but they _seem_ to be going away. We shall see. I'm pretty convinced the boat caused it, yeah, the vein was weak but the doctors kept asking if I did anything...

    Seaspension install on a 228

Have not, the weather here has been awful. Stuff like 14' @ 14s. Up by Seattle it was 28@9. Big storm system. I'm hoping to get out soon but I need a break in the weather.

    20HP vs 9.9HP on a 228?

I don't troll slower than about 2.5mph so I think that part would be fine. The reason I'm considering it is I have a single main engine and can't get more than about 5mph with the kicker as it is. If my main became disabled, I'd like as much speed as possible out of the kicker to get home. If...

    20HP vs 9.9HP on a 228?

I'm curious if anyone put a 9.9HP Suzuki on a 228 and then did the conversion to get 20HP out of it (well documented on the hull the truth). I'm wondering would 20 hp move my 228 faster, and if so, how much?

    Seaspension install on a 228

Well, done, ready for a sea trial. Many mistakes were made but it came out OK in the end. 1st pic is when I bolted the plate on the column to the center of the plate under the seat. Completely wrong, the column wants to be where the ratchet is. I also had the plate upside down and backwards...

Trim Tabs for a boat that never had them

I think OP just needs some guidance on how to do it. I'm no expert but I upgraded my tabs and had to seal the old holes and drill new ones. All I did was fill the old holes with 5200, smear the back of the hinge with 5200 and screwed it on. I really have no way of knowing but I don't think...

    Seaspension install on a 228

One step forward, one step back. My plan was to drill it for the bottom of the seat, then position it and drill it for the plate at the top of the column. Only problem is I'm an idiot. I was thinking 8 bolts but that doesn't work with the plate. I have to drill things for the top plate of...

I have those 2 and a powerless GPS antenna that goes into my AIS unit. I believe that steadycast is redundant, it was first.

Trim Tabs for a boat that never had them

I will echo others and urge you to get tabs that are big enough. Bennett says, for 9 inch deep tabs you want an inch for each foot of boat length. Grady put 9x12s on my 228, that's half as big as they should be. I upgraded those to 12x18 and now the boat rides like it should. It was a huge...

    Seaspension install on a 228

It's a little bit custom. They cut the plate so it didn't overhang the pedestal and they got me to give them measurements so the bottom of the column exactly hits the bottom of the pedestal. I am amazed at how well it worked, the pressure from the unit is spread out over the top and the bottom...

I am trying to keep fishing after a stroke in my brain. It ain't easy, an ocean that I would have thought was awesome before the stroke, makes my head feel like I'm gonna have another one. I'm desperately trying to find a way to keep fishing on the ocean, it's more or less all I have left at...

    Which radar

I have a 8610xsv and a 942. The 942 will not do shaded relief so I upgraded to a 943. The 943 feels more like the 86xx series, it's just better. Just wanted to put a heads up in case someone was looking at the $500 942 at West Marine.
