How far out in the ocean would you travel from land?

How fast can they tow you? I've always wondered if it was worth or just motor in on your kicker (if you have one). My kicker won't move me more than 6mph so....

How far out in the ocean would you travel from land?

This is the right answer. When I do tuna runs, I've collected intel and I know roughly where they are and so do a bunch of other people. The last time I did a run, there were dozens of boats in the area. It was in fog and we had to pay attention so we weren't running into each other. If you...

    WTB: Grady 226 Seafarer

Might consider a 228 as well. I'm pretty sure I know why you want a 226, no swim platform to push you around in a following sea. I have a 228, I fish out of mainly Santa Cruz, CA but up and down the coast as well. Yeah, the swim platform can surprise you a bit, and I can imagine conditions...

Purchasing from someone on this site

I bought a construction tractor over the internet. What I did was open an escrow account, any bank can do that, we did it with a local to the seller bank. You put the money in there but it is not released until you are happy with the purchase. Pretty standard way to deal with big purchases...

How far out in the ocean would you travel from land?

Tuna runs, I'm not sure, but pushing 60. 114 gallon tank full and 24 more gallons on the deck, 3 guys, lots of ice, that's the only time I looked at my 250 and wished it was a 300. Hole shot is not great with all that weight, it does it, but it struggles. Like others have said, it's sort of a...

Trailering a 1992 Grady White Sailfish

I also have a ram 1500 but with the 3.0L ecodiesel. My biggest issue was the suspension, I'd put the tongue on the hitch and my truck lights were like high beams. This solved the problem: Air Lift 1000HD. If you install them yourself, which isn't too bad, soak the bags in as hot water as you...

Seafarer 2018 For Sale Like NEW 112 hours on F300

That's a screaming deal. For comparison, I paid $130K out the door for a 2020. Then added the kicker ($3K), electronics ($15K) and then he has downriggers. That's easily more than $150K invested. Grady stopped making this boat and "replaced" it with the 218, which is way more money and a...

    Pantographic wiper arm question

Annnnnnd, I'm an idiot. Those motors are not going to be strong enough to move the 24 inch arms I need. And the stock motors are not centered on my new windows. So far as I know, asking the motor to do 60% to the left and 40% to the right is not a thing. Which means this is a bigger project...

    Pantographic wiper arm question

I have a query in to Grady about them. I took the covers off but the label is facing the wrong way. I'll just wait until Grady gets back to me. I think they are Marinco brand.

I was hoping to reuse the stock motors.

    Pantographic wiper arm question

I'm looking for the same information because I put tall narrow windows on my custom pilot house on my 228. West Marine has some, I'm still doing research.

    New Owner - Checklist anywhere?

I do OK, still have a lot to learn. I'm still in my first decade of boating. I think you are approaching boating in a really solid way and you are going to be fine. The lists are good, the mental approach is good, confidence based on knowledge and experience is good, cockiness is no good on...

Anyone with Suzuki DF300 on Canyon 306 or similar hull?

A buddy of mine has a Canyon 271 with Yamaha 300s. Been very reliable. But he's adding a 37 foot invincible to his stable and has been learning about Mercury engines. He's impressed with them, likes them better than the Yamahas (which he likes, don't get me wrong). If I were repowering I'd...

Looking to outfit 21' walk around ( a 218 Adventure) with electronics

I had Garmin radar on my 228's hardtop and it sucked. I never trusted it, it didn't 17 whalers. When I had the top replaced with a pilot house, Charlie Hicks put about a 6 inch pedestal up there for the radar. And tipped it forward a little. HUGE HUGE difference, sees everything. I can't...

I kinda doubt he bought a 32 foot boat as his first boat, seems like a lot. But maybe he'll chime in.

    Repower Options: Seafarer 228G

I think you'd be fine at 250, as someone else said, if you go 300 and the boat says 280 then you can run into insurance problems. I believe my 250hp Yamaha is around 561 pounds so any Merc will be lighter. If you don't care about insurance, I'm all for a 300.

    New Owner - Checklist anywhere?

I don't have a list for coming home, it's put down antennas, walk around and make sure engines are up, straps on, everything tucked away. At home I wash the brakes first, then do 15 minutes of flush on both engines, then wash the outside of the boat and the trailer. Then I clean fish and I'm...
