    Repower Options: Seafarer 228G

4 stroke all the way. As for the rebuild, I'd ask a lot of questions. In fact, here is what I do when I buy something off craigslist. I ask the seller if I decide in 24 hours it is not for me, can I return it and get my money back. Assuming I haven't put a bunch of hours on it or damaged it...

    Trailer tires?

One of my 3.5 year tires came apart on me. So I'm looking for new tires. A buddy said goodyear endurance - those are $190 each, seems spendy but is that the best answer? The trailer is 2 3500 pound axles so I'll do E rating.

    Bunk trailer

Ask grady where the center of gravity is for your boat, I've been told you want that over the middle axle but I'm sure someone who knows for sure will speak up.

    WTB: Marlin or 330 express:

So I have a newish 228, 2020 bought from Grady. Are the transom issues something I need to worry about? I have an excellent fiberglass guy so if there is something I need to do, please tell me. Thanks in advance.

    282 sailfish or 300 Marlin

I'm no expert but I regularly ride on a Canyon 271 that has twin 300s. That's a smaller, lighter boat than a Marlin. I have to wonder if a Marlin with 250s is under powered. Any Marlin people want to chime in?

    Repower Options: Seafarer 228G

I can't speak for OP but I would not want less than 250hp, that's what I have and on tuna runs, 3 dudes, ice, extra gas, the hole shot is more like a hole pebble. It struggles to get on plane. It does it, but you can feel it struggling. A buddy of mine has a Canyon 271 but is upgrading to an...

    NMEA2K Backbone placement

And if you extend the backbone up to the radio box like I did, don't be fooled into buying a "backbone cable". Those are beefy cables but it turns out for a short extension, under 20 feet or so, a normal cable works just fine. I am guessing that the beefy backbone cables are for big boats like...

    NMEA2K Backbone placement

In my buddies' 1999 228, there is a clam shell behind the helm in the cabin. I have the same thing in my 2020 228. Mine has part of the NMEA 2K backbone there, I ran an extension up into my radio box as well.

Who has worked this hard for a hardtop?

I'm impressed and I've done some framing. How did you lift the roof up?

    GW Surplus Parts

Some of those prices are insane: $1,300 for a $500 prop, $260 for a pair of trim tabs I can get for $160 from West Marine or Hodges. Some of the prices are fine but buyer beware.

    Trailer chain?

I went with 3/8 G80 7100 working load zinc coated.

    Trailer chain?

My Pacific trailer came with steel cables that are rusting out (and don't look strong enough to hold 7000 pounds of boat and trailer). I found some 5/16" anchor chain that claims a working strength of 2500 pounds, breaking strength of 5000 pounds. Do people think that is strong enough to keep...

    Windshield frame removal

I did this on a 2020 228 a few months back. I believe there is some strip that pulls out and then you have access to the screws. Mine was black and I think on the outside. If you don't figure it out, DM me and I'll go look at my windshield see if I can figure it out.

running transducer cable 2024 232 Gulfstream

You need to look at the wires feeding your fuse box. See if they are big enough for whatever you power up there. I power an 18 inch Garmin radar, running light, and a Garmin 942xv off of my fuse box which is fed with ten gauge on my boat (check your owner's manual, it will tell you). When you...

Came close to sinking my 330 yesterday

I've had them in there for over 2 years and been happy with them. You are correct that stuff can get in there so when I'm cleaning the boat, I pick out anything that can block them and then I blast water through to be sure they are clean (I have 60 PSI at the house). I wanted to be happy with...

    With all due respect

I have whatever Grady put in in 2020 and they are going strong. NOCO GENIUS2X2, 2-Bank, 4-Amp (2-Amp Per Bank) charger.

Came close to sinking my 330 yesterday

I have a thread sort of related, I gave on on the flaps for the scuppers and put in this: That's a flap valve, the water leaving your boat is enough to open it up, it's just gravity fed so water coming in pushes it shut. It's not perfect but for me it is way better than the standard rubber...

    outrigger recommendation 2022 271 Canyon

My buddy has that boat and he has Taco Grand Slam 280 bases and the Taco Silver 1.5" x 15' poles. I have the exact same setup and like it.

I'd like to know that as well since I need to get new arms to match my pilot house.
