Fellas- I learned a lot doing this. You know the old saying, “experience is what you get right after you needed it” LOL.
So, got the Rivnuts and tool from McMaster Carr. One day delivery!. I had 3 bad Rivnuts on the main tank and one on the Aux tank. Both tanks were completely full. We used some...
I hear you, the yard seems to be the “go to” yard around here and that’s the first time I ever had a boat on the stands, so it looked good to me. Lots of Big Sporty’s done the same way. Cobb’s Marina in Norfolk, highly recommend them.
So- I have a great guy that has been helping me getting this boat squared away, and he is very adverse to drilling. He has worked extensively with the rivnuts and he has talked me into trying those before we do anything else. I’ll keep everyone posted on our progress. Going to order parts today.
Spoke to the tank Mfr this morning, RDS Manufacturing. They did use these Rivnuts when my tank was made (2001) but don’t use them now. They recommended to rotate the sender 180 and drive a new set of holes. Problem is, I got 130 gallons of fuel in there! They said try a Air drill or hand drill...
All,
Just replaced the senders on my two tanks in my 2001 265. The Aux tank sender was original and the replacement went in with no problems. The main tank sender was not original. I had a bear of a time with one of the bolts and ended up pulling the threaded insert out of the tank with the...
Fowl Hooked- saw you at the ramp in VB today then went by the Fishing Center and snapped a bunch of pics of your trailer. Then I come on here and see your post! I am having the same issue and gonna try that solution, looked sweet. Good Luck fishing!
Greg
On my last two boats ( 25 SeaVee and now a 265) I have used Interstate batteries from their blemished stock. Had fully warranty and cheap compared to retail. Just call your local Interstate location and see if they have blemished in the size you need.
I got the two side vent windows from Marine Glass Specialty’s in FL. Referred to him by TaylorMade, who owns Water bonnet, who made the Windshield. Apparently he bought a lot of the Grady Glass stuff . He’s hard to get ahold of, try to call him.
Rob,
I was having some fueling issues I thought were related to my trailer orientation. Turned out both senders were bad. Worth pulling the floors and testing them, very easy to get the floor up to take a look at your tanks and lines.
My tidbit of advice ( based on experience!) : Don’t run it hard with the side windows open!
Love mine, and you sound like you scored a good deal. Congrats!
Thanks fellas, gonna pull the floor this week as the offshore forecast looks kinda bleak. Going to replace a bad fuel sender on the Aux tank while we are in there, any sender recommendations?
