Try replacing the burned wires first and see if any thing else need to be replaces. I found that a lot of times the weakest wires burn first and open not allowing big damage. But this experience is in other electrical system not on any boat that i have worked on.But what I do on my boat is...

I have float switches + manual switching for the bilge pumps, never saw the timer ones, but I found that the switches need to be cleaned out because everything that gets flushed down onto the bilge will end up around the float switch. I have to clean out sand and hair all the time. who knows...
