    Raising ski pylon

Dennis outlines the proper procedure for extending the tow bar I posted a picture of. The picture is of the bar on a 215 and may be used on other models. I visited my local dealer to go over options for a factory order 215 and their in stock 215 had that tow bar. The salesman and I tried for a...

    Running Genset at Cruise

Not on a Grady, but I had a Back Cove with a panda genset that I would run at cruise to cool the helm and down below.

    Trailer opinions please...

To add to Ekea’s post, the pvc guides help see the trailer when retrieving the boat and backing the trailer when it’s empty.

    Trailer opinions please...

Buy two or three. Once you’re paying to ship one the others ride almost free. Around here, Load Rite (5Starr) is considered a mid-tier trailer, Venture is held in higher regard. Wesco is popular since their built in West Columbia, SC. Just pay attention to detail as many mfg’s have different...

    2007Yamaha F250 fuel leak

Assuming it’s a recent engine, there’s a fuel filter at the lower front of the engine. It has an o-ring seal. Another guess is VST tank, but it’s buried a bit deeper. Check fuel line connections. If its an older motor perhaps the fuel lines themselves.

    285 Freedom Power Steering Pump

Is this a SeaStar steering boost pump? If so, the hydraulic lines from the helm run to it, then lines from the pump to your engine steering cylinders. The pump I’m vaguely familiar with has a battery direct connection with a 30A fuse and a switched 12V from the helm. Also from the helm is a...

Suggestions for removing new-ish ablative bottom paint?

I had bottom paint removed on a 25’ EdgeWater a few years ago. They used 150 grit orbital sanders, followed by 3 coats of barrier. Pro tip - protect the interior of the boat from the dust.

    Freedom 235 proper trim

Hard to quantify something that has so many variables. Smooth water sure, but near shore there’s wind, waves, tide, wakes and everything else that is determined to soak you and the contents of your boat with seawater. Sea conditions, wind direction relative to desired course, etc. dictate trim...

    Boat trailer ladder

There’s a local trailer repair guy that has single bolt-on steps that bolt to the winch stand. I’ll try and find his info and update. edit: The owner is Hayden Sellers and biz name is Old Buck Welding. He builds full custom ladders, too, but here are the steps

    Trailering with Eisenglass

I always went by the adage if you’re going to tow at a higher speed than the boat’s WOT, stow it.

    cover for wet slipped 228?

LaPorte’s is a local company that makes covers and has a very good reputation. Hard to recommend a specific type of cover not knowing if you have a hardtop and other features on your boat, but my guess is they’ve built covers for most configurations. find them on YT and their own site

Buying a 2002 228 without trailer- Need trailer advise

Here’s a trailer I had built for a 225 by a local company, Charleston Trailer. This is after they set it up for the boat. Notice the main bunks are “pigeon towed”, closer in the front than the rear. This was to fit the SV2 hull best. It had torsion axles with Vortex hubs and Kodiak surge brakes...

Buying a 2002 228 without trailer- Need trailer advise

Most adjustable trailer manufacturers will fit a 2-3’ range of hull length. Ex. - 20-23’ and so on. Other non-adjustable trailer manufacturers will build for a specific hull and weld brackets. Once you determine proper length make sure it has proper weight capacity. Common axle rating is 3500...
