New fuel tanks - Grounding Question

Skunk, I think it's kind of a moot point as I eluded to above. The reason I say this is I've worked on plenty of boats where the green wire goes to a bus bar and NOT the battery. These were well made, higher end boats - and it's that way from the factory. I think this is a "just because GW...

New fuel tanks - Grounding Question

For your grounding, best practice is to ground to a bus bar to keep from having multiple things right on the battery. Although this is more of an aesthetic thing. However, it wouldn't matter which battery you go to - you'll notice that the batteries' negatives are all tied tied together -...

OE flush mount rod holder manufacturer

Ummmmm... that's not an "M". You're looking at the "GW" logo upside down. As far as I know, since that was made special for GW, the only way to get it would be through a dealer.

New fuel tanks - Grounding Question

Correct - pink is the standard color for the sender wire... and Pw/W would be for a secondary tank. All grounds are connected together in the system... "ground". Which means it doesn't really matter. BUT... you could ohm each black wire to the fuel fills to see which wire is connected to...

Condensation dripping on fuel tank fittings

X2 to what Hookup said about epoxy holes. It's a relatively simple step, but it totally prevents cores issues.

Condensation dripping on fuel tank fittings

In comparison, yeah, the screw in deck plates are a bit better. But, in reality, it still comes down to sealing (re-sealing) the screw-down part every so often and making the sure o-ring is good - and they both have those two parts to keep up on. If you keep up on that, then either style is fine.

    375 Freedom Issue / Question

Yes! Using the boat on a regular basis definitely helps eliminates issues... and is MUCH more fun than not using the boat :) Looking at the picture of the fuel cooler, it appears it will drain very easily.... but Chris, you bring up a good point that I wasn't thinking about. I think you may...

    375 Freedom Issue / Question

I don't know those engines well, at all, but... that's a lot of build up. Is the VST cooler more prone to buildup than other areas? The reason I'm asking is that I'm wondering if, after seeing that, does it warrant removing the head covers?

    Yamaha F-150 lower unit

Is the one that SEI shows on their website not correct? I'd maybe contact them directly if you need more info/clarification.

Marlin 300 Rod Holders Up Front

Good point. Unless they will end up draining to an area that, itself, drains. BUT... I just realized we're talking about a Marlin. For some reason, I thought we were talking about a bowrider. Yeah, in this case, it makes a whole lot more sense to use clamp-on holders as there's lot's of...

Marlin 300 Rod Holders Up Front

Drilling holes, understandably, can be a daunting task. But honestly, once you've done it a bunch of times, it's an every day thing. Heck, there are already plenty of holes drilled in the boat - if your skills set is decent, there's absolutely no difference in you doing it than the factory...

    Transom Cap replacement

I always wondered about the terminology, too. Odd name, yes - unfortunately it's the "right" one to use when googling (or at least the one that returns more results).

    Windlass Foot Switch Replacement

Alongside what Skunk said - you should notice that the footswitch's wires are thin gauge. This means you don't need anything "heavy duty". So as he mentioned... any 'ol switch will work.

New Boat Questions - The basics

You'd still need to check the hoses and see exactly how it's plumbed. I don't want to guess on that. But, these are typically just a flush system - as I mentioned above, most likely, if you do it while the engine is running you will burn up your impeller. Personally, I wouldn't trust it to...

New Boat Questions - The basics

What do you mean by "linking up"? Aren't they surge brakes? It would be EXTREMELY rare to see EOH brakes on this size trailer. How's the master cylinder? The backing plate is there on the rear axle - but it's looking in pretty sad shape... is everything solid? Does MD require brakes on both...

    Deck refinish

So what you probably have there, at approaching 4 decades old.. is "not-so-non-skid" non-skid? :) When I re-did my '82 - which was pretty just "slip-n-slide" - I painted it with Pettit's EZ Deck. I didn't even bother trying to match the existing color as it would be near impossible - I went...

New Boat Questions - The basics

HOA's.... yuck. West Marine? Wrong Marine.... :p Get the impeller "kit". You won't know if you need the housing/wear plates till you get in there - might as well start fresh rather than waiting on another shipping delay. For reference... anything "Quicksilver" branded is the same as...

    Transom Cap replacement

It's generally referred to as a "bang cap". Grady makes a replacement (has been for a while) in vinyl. But you could also buy fiberglass L-channel stock pretty readily/easily.

New Boat Questions - The basics

Ok, since the fill cap was off, that eliminates any venting issues as being the problem. This is assuming the gas tank is full, for now. Borrow a tank - or get creative? In lieu of that, siphon some gas from the bottom of the tank into a clear glass jar and let it set for a bit. This is to...
