Transom Rebuild - The Saga Begins

My friend n Florida has the same issue with a lift kept boat. Freezing is not the issue. A poor design and workmanship in that area is the problem.

Transom Rebuild - The Saga Begins

Thanks for keeping us up to date and good luck with the repair. An FYI to those thinking it is the freeze cycle: Although I am sure it can exacerbate it, my friend in Florida, with a lift kept boat has the problem as bad as any I have seen, so it doesn't require freezing. When I removed my...

Calling anyone who has successfully applied hull striping.

2X using the soapy water and removing a couple feet worth at a time. I would have thought the professional would have come across this in the past. Call Grady customer service if you advice on their application process.

    2002 F225 Trim/Tilt Motor DB Electric

"I'm not expecting the same quality" You may get better quality. Some of those OEM Yamahas rusted out like they were made out of tin. I am a huge OEM guy but couldn't justify it in this application. Aftermarket all the way.

Transom Rebuild - The Saga Begins

Absolutely the weak link in the build, by far, and Grady hasn't done anything about it other than change from aluminum to plastic. It is certainly harder/more expensive/more time consuming to glass it over but the boats aren't cheap and are supposed to be known for their quality. When I took...

Used Marlin Sea Trial handling & Fisher Panda Generator

if the wheel wobbles, then the bushing is getting worn I replaced my tilt mechanism (front half of the unit). Made a big difference, common problem. If it is difficult to steer it could be tight engines (you disconnect the steerring and move motors by hand to check) It can also be in the...

    30 Marlin with F225's

Run them at 1000 + rpm higher than that. You can cruise at 30 and hit near 40 wot. Not underpowered. That doesn't mean that 300's aren't better but 225's push it just fine. A 30 mph cruise is pretty decent for a 30 ft cabin boat.

New Enclosure and GW Production Info

How much was the canvas? I have an '07 330 and was debating replacing mine. Thanks

Hydraulic steering a little stiff, normal or not?

Very informative, thank you. Although you may have just added to my to-do list, it sounds like a winter project I will have to tackle!

    Fuel Tank Question

It is EXTREMELY important to realize that there is a significant amount of gas that you will not be able to burn so although there were 60 gallons left in the tank, 30 of them could easily be unusable. I made the mistake of running my rear tank to empty (33 express), knowing that I had at least...

    Vacuflush Head Help

Unfortunately, I am not sure about your discharge light. I will check my system when I get to the boat over the next day or so. The level indicator lights all work off of their own senders-one for each light). They are basically on/off floats (like the gas senders - wema? without levels). I...

    Vacuflush Head Help

wow, you guys are really all over the place. I have been through every single part of the vacuflush system and am well versed with them. First of all, the bowl is running dry because you aren't getting a good seal between the ball valve and gasket and almost certainly can be fixed by opening...

    Another Transom Question

From what I have been told (and I have seen this on many boats) is that the fiberglass flexes to a greater degree than the gel coat can, especially if the gel coat is thick (or too thick). That fiberglass flex which is completely natural and normal can crack the gel coat.

Definitely sounds like "fun." It is nice when you finally get things like that sorted out.

I have the older F250's but did change to the 4 blade and prefer them considerably.

    330 Express Performance Question

No red flags to me considering what you said (full rpms, not struggling). Is the boat heavier now than when you were hitting the better numbers (full fuel, full water)? If not, growth might be the ticket. It certainly can reduce by at least 5mph+. I don't think octane would change the power...

    STBD list on Express 265

Common problem that I have with my '07 330 but didn't have with my '06. My current boat has an extra AC compressor for the fish boxes on the port side. Live well and holding tank are starboard but almost always empty. I compensated with a water bag for wakeboarding boats. Sits perfect...

I am considering a mechanical fuel gauge on top of fuel tank

The WEMA would be a factory replacement and likely what is wrong with your gauge. If that is the only thing that is wrong, the simplest fix is to replace with a new one. Six screws and two wires and the dash gauge will work like factory new. I have replaced them on my Grady and Regulator and...

    Goodbye ETEC

In my opinion it is a misguided shift to 4 strokes. I have Yamaha 250 4 strokes on my 33 and 2 stroke HPDIs on my center console. I love the two stokes, simpler design, less parts, less maintainence, less things to break. Torquey and solid. They are out of fashion and not much can be done...

    Goodbye ETEC

The etecs were incredibly engineered 2 strokes. Definitely an engine I was interested in. Sadly, not anymore. There will be ever decreasing support for them. It is a shame.
