    Moving up... Learning Curve

Thanks everyone for the input. sounds like the twins and the effects of wind are the biggest changes. Looking forward to learning! I agree with Salinity, one of the major reasons for the move was to increase the number of fishable days, which this will really do. Not too many days around...

    Moving up... Learning Curve

Got the admiral's OK to make the move from my Sportsman 180 to the Sailfish... Big step up. Single 2 stroke to twin 4 strokes... Center console to cabin... Limited accesories to the whole shebang... Clearly there will be a learning curve here with this move as I've never owned a boat this...

    180 Sportsman Power 115hp vs. 150hp

I have a 180 w/a Yam 130hp 2 stroke. great combination of power and weight. I top out at about 40-42mph, but rarely can I do that in my waters. My friend has a 150HP 4S on his, I am a bit jealous... However the weight of the 150 is considerable seeing the boat is only 18'. That said, I...

    Sailfish Help

Looking at an '05 282 Sailfish w/250s. For you Sailfish owners, what should I be looking for? How many can reasonably sleep overnight on board (thinking of 1 or 2 adults and kids age 12 and under). This would be very infrequent, maybe once a year and could include sleeping bags in the...

This week's puzzler - mooring in a protected bay

I installed this simple mooring last year in front of my cottage on Cape Cod. Tremendous holding power, easy set up. Key was for us at low tide the water is only a foot deep so we could "screw" it into the bottom with a turning bar. Works great. We added 1/2" chain to the mooring ball...

    PLanning for weekend get-a-way's

I would recommend Provincetown. Marina is right in the middle of everything. V short walk to Commercial street with some of the best retaurants anywhere. Also great location for fishing, whale watching, beaches.

    Pursuit vs Grady

I too have been awaiting a pot of gold to appear so I can make this decision! I've been looking at these two builders for a few years in the 30-36' range so I'll be ready when the gold arrives... To me it comes down to usage. I think the Pursuits are a better option for cruising...

    Boat Tilt????

This is clearly a small boat in the 18-20 foot range. I have a 180 and need to be very careful with distribution of weight, in particular when landing fish. With 3 guys on my boat fishing and multiple hookups, it is not unusual to have all three on one side momentarily no matter how vigilent I...

A to Z Boatworks Scituate MA

I have used them and know others that do. They do very good work, are responsive, no complaints. Not the cheapest around, but I have never had a problem. Couple years back I had ethanol problems on my carbeurated Yamaha. They were buried with ethanol related issues but got me back on the...

    boat leans to Port

Have the same problem on a smaller scale with my 180. I do not have tabs. It is caused because the thrust or the prop is pushing not straight back but down as well. When you get on plane trim the engine up and the list should lessen. I trim up until the prop slip gets noticeable, then...

I saw an amazing thing today...

That is what its all about. My 9 yr old now pilots our Sportsman through harbors and rivers. He understands basic navigation. Nothing like watching them learn. Good stuff.

    Pink discoloration on vinyl

When I bought my 99 sportsman in 2003, it looked like pink/purple stains from berries on the cushions. Brought in to my dealer (I didn't buy from him) and GW replaced all cushions as it was a defect in the material. Not sure if thats what you have, but have the dealer look at it.

    GW Sportsman 180 Pro's & Con's

River, I spent some time experimenting to figure out how to use that space. I got one of those lobster/fish tote boxes that has handles and holes in the bottom for drainage. I bungeed it in under the seat. The bungees are not so tight that I can't pull it out to put tackle, small cooler, and...

Is V8 Explorer enough truck to haul 18' ft GW?

    GW Sportsman 180 Pro's & Con's

River, Couple other points... I have only been up river as far as Norris (just pass Bridge Street), simply because its all no-wake and takes time. Its actually a good trip from the 3A bridge (Mary's) that far up. I usually have kids so they don't have the patience... The 180 is a great...

    GW Sportsman 180 Pro's & Con's

I'm at N River Marine, across from Mary's. You have to remember we're talking about a 17'10" boat with a 7'6" beam. Of course you are going to feel weight shifts. This weekend I had 2 adults (me and another dad) and 5 kids 3-9 on the boat in Ptown. We were drifting and fishing (27 stripers...
