Anyone mount a big amplifier in a Grady?

I've got my small digital 4 channel in my electronics box currently. About the size of a single DIN car stereo and mounted to the top of the box that houses it. But the amp I want to get is 20" long! So long and skinny. Anyone have pics of where they mounted a big(ish) amp or amps on their Grady...

    restoration pics.

Awesome work. Fiberglass projects interest me. Love how you're using foam to make complex shapes. So what kind of plastic do you cover the foam with. Would it protect it from Polyester resin or just epoxy?

    Grady Storage

Only posting to tell you my experience over 15 years of boat ownership (6 boats). Not saying you should do this. I'm in Washington State, we have a pretty temperate but damp climate. I've usually stored my tank at whatever level it was on the last outing. I know not ideal but I've checked the...

Well he's very skilled in design as well because the lines match perfectly.

What are your Top 3 favorite boat mods or additions you've made?

Love that pilothouse. What’s the story behind that? Make it yourself or a local guy? Fingers crossed he made a mold! :)

    both batteries relocated to port

Group 24 has been ok so far but I’ve notice the downriggers slow down after a long fishing weekend with stereo/amp loud. I only use15 lb balls. Im sure bigger is better. All my battery wires are custom lengths so if I go to a bigger battery for house loads I’ll have to make more.

    208 Bilge Pump

As others have said, sure you could put one in but, you'd need to drill a bigger hole in the side of your boat. My rear is 2000 gph and it shoots water 8' sideways when on.

Who do you have your boat insured through?

I use progressive but haven't had any experience with claims or other insurers. They do allow a "stated value" which I use. It's at $35k from 2019 I'd need to pay $45k to get the same boat out here if I could find one.

Boat envy, thinking about a new Marlin 300, have questions.

Buy a used Marlin that already has a slip in your area. 2 problems solved for the right boat. There's a smaller market for used 30' boats vs trailable 22' boats. You're going to get a great deal over what they cost new! Assuming you can find one. Now the fun part, looking! I envy you, keep us...

What are your Top 3 favorite boat mods or additions you've made?

Not really in order. I should say doing a DIY motor swap to a used fourstroke but that's a no brainer and more than a 'mod'. - Similar to Skunkboat, - Reconfiguring batteries to have a dedicated house battery, moved both to port side, Added a VSR switch so I'll never run down my start battery...

    both batteries relocated to port

Nice, I did the same after I bought my boat. Added an ACR (love it) and moved both Group 24 batters to port to balance out 120 lb kicker. Did you use the Blue Sea Terminal fuses they ask for on your ACR? I've blown 2, thinking of switching to a circuit breaker. 100 amp. Good project, well worth it.

Finally a Grady White owner and finally got her back home safely...

Awesome trip report! Thanks for taking the time to post. I've had 2 boats shipped east to west but always wondered how it would be and how much it would cost to drive it myself. I paid $3500 for my 228 Seafarer in Nov. 2019 to go from Richmond Virgina to Seattle, WA. Let me tell you it was nerve...

Upgrade to hydraulic or electric steering systems

Never seen a Boomer sub but I can tell you our ferries have a prop at each end. So they don't turn around. They use the front prop as the brakes, which is the wash you see in the front. I'm pretty sure the ferry could have stopped if he wanted to but he had the right of way. Amazing how tough...

New Grady White 228 Seafarer owner with a couple of questions...

Found a pic of the old rear speakers. These couldn't handle an amp so took them out. Front 2 sets are still in there. SKAR audio replacements but the same holes in the hardtop were used... luckily. Those box speakers are really easy to mount! Not much room in the hardtop when you open the...
