Why are the trim tabs on the 228 so small?

It's not the size of the tabs but how you use them in conjunction with the motor. Grady built that boat for 4 decades and I trust they know what they were doing in regards to the tabs. I have never had an issue running the boat now 13 years with the factory equipped tabs. Let us know how...

    Owens

Best trailer I have towed in my life. My Owens is just a year old now . Let's hope the new people realize the importance of the brand they bought and figure how important maintains or improving the quality is for their future

Put a Pair of Aluminum Four-Blade Props on my Sailfish 282 Today

I haven't looked at a chart for that area in a while but one of the qualities I find beauty in is the near shore scenery where land and sea meet. Problem is it's hard to to experience that interface from 5 miles off. In many places you can't get that close to shore because of water depth and...

Put a Pair of Aluminum Four-Blade Props on my Sailfish 282 Today

When I lived in Florida and had my 192 I went over to Homasassa a couple times. I stayed between the markers and yes it's shallow over there. I have explored around the mouth of the Suwannee River too . I have kayaked around St. Marks but that was near shore and stuff. I love the Panhandle...

Recommend a marine stereo (any direct replacements for the original Kenwood KMR-700U?)

I just installed a Fusion Apollo hideaway system WB670. It has a class D amp which produces excellent sound with low heat and current draw. It's a white box that can be installed nearly anywhere and is controlled by your plotter, an app or the Garmin Quatix 6 or 7 watch. My boat audio is night...

    Buying a new polisher

I learned some stuff here . I was deciding between Makita and DeWalt ,but I wanted cordless. Yah I know the machines can eat up batteries . I chose the Dewalt 20V XR 6 inch random orbit in large part because I have several 4,5 and 6 amp XR DeWalt batteries. I wanted to go a little smaller to...

    Recommended VHF Antenna Length?

What ever you buy, don't buy the cheapest one. It doesn't matter if youre just hanging in the bay or not. Cheap antennas bare cheap for a reason the elements are made from inferior conductors like aluminum. They can break internally and you wouldn't know it. I dropped like $240 or something on...

Put a Pair of Aluminum Four-Blade Props on my Sailfish 282 Today

Rob, It's a hard comparison. Its not like you are comparing two identical props made from different materials. The rake and cup are not the same so material difference ,while I think matters, may not be an issue here . Though with that said aluminum flexes more and is thus less effecient. There...

    2001 22’ Seafarer

You're looking between $30k and maybe upward of $45K . Does it come with a trailer? Hard top ? Options? As stated above ,electronics ? Are they 20 years old and relatively new ? I just spent close to $3,000 upgrading my stereo, replacing all the speakers with JL stuff and adding a Garmin GXM 54...

    Trailering question

Male sure the tires are inflated to max pressure . Typically ST tires are not rated for speeds above 65 mph. Go under 65 . Make sure your wheel bearings are greased and the brakes are not sticking or hanging up. They will induce friction and thus heat Heat kills grease, bearings and hubs ...

    Decision

If your stern is in good shape , then consider repowering that boat. A new F150 on the back makes the 192 just hum. I had a192 and put a F150 on her ..Great boat .

    Decision

Is the stern solid? Did you keep water our of it and keep that joint between the hull and cap water tight? If so, the saying goes new motor equals new boat. If the hull is good I would repower.

    Spring Commissioning

Oh, you got to get the squirrel tails and heads out of the boat too. It's a perpetual problem for some. Nothing better than splashing the boat with friends and family and have a random squirrel head roll out . Talk about embarrassing. My two cats use the boat as their lare in the fall. The...

    Spring Commissioning

Y'all gave a good list . If it's going to happen , it's going to happen out there boss. Captain Ron. I always inspect my hoses and clamps on through hills..also, if you have pyrotechnic flares ,make sure they are not out of date . The Coast Guard will ding you. side note, I live in the sticks...

    Water from drain plug

Don't forget the anchor locker . It too drains to the bilge after running all day I might get at most a 1/4 cup to 1/2 cup of water. Sometimes I get no water . On the other hand I see guys at the ramp with other boats and they pull the plug and half the ocean or river comes pouring out.

    Updating stereo on boat 228

I used existing factory holes . I don't like holes either. I have Sony ,Bose and altec Lansing blue tooth speakers . They are a great audio source for outdoors . For me I really wanted XM radio and the weather package as well as audio . A portable blue tooth speaker didn't meet my wants...

    What could Grady do better?

If they still made the 228 or one day being it back. Just add 6 tiny inches to the beam amidships. It would make walking through the companion way easier for my fishing buddy Ben who is a big guy . It's a small thing but man would it make it nicer . Sometimes I don't think Grady understands...
