    new owner-steering fluid leak

Sounds like hydraulic steering fluid. You should check and make sure you're not overfilled first. Its the cap right behind the wheel. I've overfilled before and had the fluid drip down on the footrest. If that level is OK you need to inspect underneath the helm for leaks. Good luck.

    splash 2010

I used the heavy duty poles. They are stored on hooks in my garage when not in use and they're not at all heavy to carry. I transport them back and forth to the marina on the top of my SUV. Bought some pipe insulation with the split in it and slip these on the poles before putting them on top...

    splash 2010

For whatever it's worth, I installed Lee gunnel mount outriggers (1 3/4") on my Seafarer last summer/fall. They are set with 16 ft. heavy duty poles that are double rigged. I've used them a couple of times since installing them and have been able to run a couple of extra rods without any...

    Mahi Mania!

Re: Glut Although this does look like an excessive number, the regs allow for 60 per boat in SC or 10 per person. These freeze well and you can enjoy for many meals. Also, dolphin are extremely plentiful and reproduce at an incredible rate. We went out yesterday from Charleston and...

    Dumb battery question

You might want to put it on a charger overnight if you have access to line power. I would also keep my eye on it after charging to make sure the battery is still good if it is a starting battery.

When is it normal to start pounding ?

Exactly what Ocnslr said is what I do. When running offshore in SC we're nearly always faced with 2-3 foot head seas. I leave the front curtains down on the way out on even the hottest of mornings. There's not much I hate worse than a face full of saltwater in the dark. Many times I'll leave...

    Yamaha Dead!

I see you've figured out the problem but another thing to look at if you have a "dead" engine is the kill-switch.

    Steering Wheel Cap

My stainless cap arrived this week and I finally popped it in this morning. It was a perfect fit. My wheel is an Attwood 5 spoke destroyer. It sure is nice to have that covered again. Many thanks for the info!

buying boat, travel to marina or not???

I think you made a wise decision being there. When I was looking for my 228 I saw many photos that looked great but it was a different story when I went in person. Relying on photos or someone else's description could turn into a big dollar mistake. Good luck!

    help troubleshooting, lost all power

I'd check both batteries and your connections. Make sure they're clean and free of corrosion. I would also check your grounds to make sure they are good.

    Steering Wheel Cap

Just ordered a stainless steel cap for myself. The shipping & small order charges more than doubled the price but I'm tired of having the broken plastic cap pop out constantly. Thanks for sharing this information.

    Testing Bilge Pumps

I have a drain hole in the bulkhead forward. This water will drain aft to the bilge. I've had to pour a little bleach up front to clean things out before and I usually run the boat afterwards to force all the water to the rear of the boat.

How much does the live well drain the battery?

You should be OK running the live well pump all day while fishing if you have a good battery. I've run 8 hours without any problems. Just make sure your second battery is good also. :)
