Anchoring technique to prevent loosing an anchor

This is how I use the ball -- just to float the anchor to the surface and save my back. Just to clarify, I don't use the zip tie on my regular anchor, only my grapnel (which I don't use the anchor ball with). The ball stays at the surface and allows the rode to easily pass and it lifts the...

    lower unit oil

I don't know the actual amount but my 225HP OX66 uses a little more than a quart of oil. I would make sure to have more than a quart available when refilling. You don't want to have to run to the store in the middle of refilling.

Anchoring technique to prevent loosing an anchor

Smoky, I have a setup just like this for anchor retrieval. You can see on my signature picture the ball stowed near the bow. I've never used it as mentioned to retrieve a stuck anchor but rather to back an anchor to the surface when I'm by myself. Someone may be able to explain how it could...

    Wiring harness connector to GPS

What type of GPS are you talking about? The easist solution in my mind would be to replace the cable if the connector is bad on one end. It shouldn't be a very difficult proposition and something most DIYers can handle.

Almost a fishing nightmare but not an outing nightmare

That's an appropriate title....no sounder or GPS just about ends your day for bottom fishing. Glad you got it working to salvage your day.

    Stain removal from gel coat

Slimy Grimy will also take care of the stains. It used to be available at Boater's World. You can purchase it directly from the company on their website. The On/Off products work well also. They're just a more caustic way to clean. Gradytom is correct about the spray and the fumes. A...

How much fuel should I be using?

My 225hp OX66's numbers are about in line with what you're saying. A 140-150 mile roundtrip offshore trip will usually burn 70-75 gallons and close to 2 gallons of two stroke oil. That's with 4 guys, ice, tackle, and a boat full of fish on the way home :D . I would think the HDPI would get...

    Buffing Question

On & off with the buffer. It makes short work of it. You just need to make sure to keep the speed down and not burn the gelcoat. I like to use a clean microfiber pad once the dried wax is removed to realy bring out the shine!

SeaDek combing pads anyone got them?

I stand corrected. I've only heard of the material for the deck. The pictures and price are certainly attractive. It would be must less expensive than using the Grady bolsters.

SeaDek combing pads anyone got them?

Were you thinking of using them in place of the bolsters? I think this product would be better suited for a deck cushion. Not sure how much padding this would provide for thighs and knees. I don't have any experience with this material so this is just my 2 cents.

    F 225 Water Pump replacement

Not sure about the torque but I just coat the threads of the bolts with blue Yamaha grease before I put the lower unit back on. Never had a problem with them seizing on me.

    learning all the time

Salty Reb, Where do you keep your boat? I went offshore yesterday to the flattest seas I think I've ever seen but the harbor was really choppy with a strong wind when I got back. Keep practicing with the docking....it'll get much easier with practice. Remember what works well under...

shake down cruise gone bad, water in the fuel question

I'm guessing that its an electrical connection problem also. Not sure how hitting the log figures into the equation. Did your Racor have water in the bowl? If not I would check the engine filter to make sure it is tight and doesn't have a leak. Sorry to hear about your problems Bob...
