This is exactly what I found last year. I would've bought a 282 if I could've found one in great condition with 4 strokes for the same money. Wife liked the cabin better on that boat but the wrap-around seating and fuel capacity was what I wanted. We drove all over New England looking at...

I was referring to the post in the classifieds. Almost seems like BS to me. FWIW, I paid close to 70k last year for my '02 265 with F225's but it was a one owner boat, had 250 hrs, all the options I wanted and a trailer.

Despite the fact that there have been a few outrageous prices posted lately it's very hard to find a deal like that when you're ready to buy. I spent 5 months last year looking at 265's and 282's before we bought our '02 265 in May. Try to find the boat you want with the engines, hours and...

One owner? Does it have all service records? If so, it seems like a pretty good price to me.

    Wax

Try Tuff Enuff to get black streaks off. If they weren't there when you waxed the boat, its not in the wax.

    Props for 265 with 225 4 strokes

Yes, it's tight back there with the F225's. I think someone mentioned that when the engines are tilted up if they're turned all the way to port or starbord the cowlings will hit the latches for the transom gate. This will scar up your hoods so I've been putting a small bumper between the cowl...

    Props for 265 with 225 4 strokes

Tom, I will get some better numbers but I only have about 35 hrs on these props and I haven't used the boat much so far this year due to weather and being tied up with other things. I did take my first inshore tuna trip last weekend. Left with about 150 gals fuel, 3 big guys and a lot of gear...

    repowering question. single or twins

If it were me I'd put a single 250 on it and it wouldn't be an ETec. My buddy has them on his HS 2900. They're gas hogs compared to my F225's. Add in the XD50 oil and it's a lot more coin to run them.

What plate are you talking about? Is this the aluminum cap on the transom edge?

    Another Gulfstream repower question...

If you have a Yamaha SWS prop it will have a number on it like 17-M or 19-M. Those would be 17" and 19" props. The boat I sea trialed had a hardtop and full curtains but it only had around 300 hrs on it. Not sure what rpm we were turning at that speed.

    Another Gulfstream repower question...

I sea trialed a 232 with a OX66 250 a few years ago and had it up to 38 mph. Power didn't seem that far off but there was only 2 of us on the boat with 1/2 tank of fuel. Twins are nice but 2x maintenance cost. I'd look at a 275 - 300 single if you want more power but check your rpm's at WOT...

    Trim Stuck; Leaking?

My port engine (F225) did that once last month when I first got to the boat. The trim motor ran but the motor wouldn't go down. I toggled it a few times, waited a minute and then tried it again and it went down. The trim seals were replaced this spring.

    Props for 265 with 225 4 strokes

It depends on the load. That's what I was trying to say. If you run with 4-5 people and full fuel all the time get the 17's. If you run with 2-4 and 1/2 fuel most of the time the 18's are the ticket.

    Props for 265 with 225 4 strokes

They're Mercury Mirage Plus 18 the 2nd and 3rd up from the bottom on the chart on the attached page. I got a great deal on them last year and I average around 1.8 mpg with them. I have seen 2.1 a few times. This is with 140-190 gals of fuel. http://www.propgods.com/content/mercury ...

    Props for 265 with 225 4 strokes

Merc props are the way to go. It depends on how you run your boat. If you run with heavy loads all the time I think the best you can do is get a set of Mercury Mirage Plus 17" props. You'll probably get 5 or 10% better economy out of them than Yamaha SWS props. I'm running a set of Mirage...

    Engine Decision Assistance

The cheapest way out is to look for a used 250 OX66 and keep the blown engine for parts. That way he keeps the same rigging etc. Bill

twin engines, dual fuel tanks - how do you like to use them?

I run one engine on each tank on my 265 but there's only a 10 gal difference between the 2 - (130 main & 120 aux). Bill

    2 micron Racors with bowls

I don't know if they're the same but the F225's have a VST tank and filter. I changed mine out this spring and it's a pain in the butt! The other thing I did was change the on engine filters out to the new 10 micron green filters. So I have the blue Yamaha 10 micron water separator/fule...
