Parthery is absolutely right. 1) DON'T cut your 'ducer wire. 2)tape the new to the old and pull it through.

There are mats that are available (Kitchens Etc. makes mats that go under cutting boards) but a wet towel underneath will help it from sliding but short of securing it, it's gonna slide. Keep it in the aft in a corner and use your tabs to comp for the weight.

I would not recommend cutting into it either. If nothing else, there is alot of lateral strain at the helm. I think cutting into the box will create more cracking down the road. (I have a stress crack at the base of my electronics box)

Do they provide enough light to tie knots? How is the red vs. white?

I looked into changing the deck lights to LED's mainly b/c of the draw when I'm fishing at night. I think you are going to be disappointed in the amount of light they emit. If it's for asthetics, they will look pretty but won't illuminate your deck.

Grog beat me to the punch...check the amount of fluid at the helm. If you need to add fluid, add it slowly turning the wheel slowly back and forth. Also watch it- if it's that low, you may have a leak. Check the SEA-STAR hydraulic ram and its fittings. the nuts and bolts can come loose...

6 weeks isn't that long considering the N.E. boats are on the hard for 6 months! Treat the fuel (I, too, like startron) but run the treated fuel through your engine. I don't recommend topping the fuel off until you've run down the old stuff- you'll only be diluting potentially bad gas.

If you're leaving it in the water, be sure to have the zincs looked at or replaced.
