Looking at buying my first GW?

Welcome to the GG board! While I have no experience with the 175 or the Great Lakes, I can say that 17' is small for choppy water and will be wet regardless of brand. The size is not large enough for a hull design to make HUGE differences; there just isn't enough hull. That said, the small...

Marlin 300 Center Rigger Help needed

Some additions to Brian's post. o I butted mine up to the middle rod holder mount which helped me center. o drill the first hole and bolt snugly, add the rigger, stand on transom to line it up, mark other holes, remove rigger o mount eyelet from kit on hardtop support facing aft o measure cord...

Marlin 300 Center Rigger Help needed

I put one on a few years ago. I have some pics on my iPhone. PM your email and I will send them. I can also post install details if anyone is interested. I actually did this myself but usually have an expert drill holes in my boat (-:

    Grady head sea ride

Grog has it right. Pick your poison - rock and roll or pound. One aspect I really like about modified V hulls like GW is that you can always slow down to make the ride comfortable. Good luck getting a deep V to stop rolling. :doh

    Water in Marlin bilge

I discovered the same livewell issue several years back. There were gaps at the top which allowed water to overflow into the bilge. I bought some waterproof silicone caulk to seal it thoroughly all the way around. I hope GW has corrected this in the construction process as a LOT of seawater...

    canvas for marlin

Where are you located? Most areas have good canvas shops who can make a great set. I upgraded to strataglass and stamoid. My canvas came out great. It was around $3700 but well worth it. Much better than what comes with the boat.

Do you run your livewell? Do you keep all seacocks closed when not in use?

    Fresh water fill

On my 88 228G it was on the walkway near the cockpit IIRC. You can contact GW CS for a definitive answer.

    Water Leak Problem

Glad to hear GW is on your issue. They have the BEST CS in this industry. I'm not sure why it took awhile but perhaps the email person was behind. You can always call direct. Ask for Jeff Brown or Eddie Rowe. They have taken care of me long after my warranty expired.

    Need Help 290 or Marlin

The Marlin is more boat in both cockpit and cabin. Awesome machine. Heading over to splash mine within the hour. I've been on the 290 which was the replacement for the Sailfish. The beam is wider (than the Sailfish) for better helm access and to allow the genny option. It is a great boat and...

    new website, believable or not

The GW numbers are reasonable but they are different than in 2004. The 300 shows a cost of around %70 of list which was 60% a few years back. This may be a reflection of volume reduction which has lead to lower margins. If these are the current numbers I would expect dealers to offer smaller...

    New England Boat Show

The last two times I purchased a boat (272 in 97 and 300 in 03) the Pursuits didn't come close to the GWs by my criteria. The Offshore series however was a major redesign and they are awesome. There are several key features I prefer on the GWs but Pursuit has some great areas as well. The cabins...

    Profits on new Gradys

Danny, I haven't seen any volume numbers but here are some points to consider. o at normal production in average years GW builds 1000 - 1200 boats. Peak probably around 1500 o 150K average is probably high as many sales are the 19-22 models o the 7% early order discount has to be offset by...

    Express 305 Cabin head room?

The Marlin has more headroom in the center of the cabin.

    Profits on new Gradys

Aside from my memory about how the engines are handled, the facts are indeed correct. The additional invoice discount may not apply to options (only boat and motors). I can't recall some of the details. Unless there has been a recent change, dealer invoice is 60% of MSRP.

    Profits on new Gradys

It gives enough margin to sell a boat 20% off MSRP and still make a profit. Beware of dealer add ons as they can be high profit and poor values. One example is a CG compliance package. You can typically get all of this much cheaper at West Marine. Also watch for inflated freight, rigging, etc...
