    290 Chesapeake

I am with Danny 100%. After owning a 272 and a 300, the 290 doesn't work for me. It is either a scaled up Sailfish or a scaled down Marlin depending on your point of view. No Bob, not ready for a new boat yet. I guess I just like my 300 too much. In three years she will be 10 so at that time I...

    Auto pilot

Unexpected hard turns are exactly why I replaced an ST5000+ with a Simrad on my 97 272. Heard reports of similar issues from others.

    water where it shouldn't be

Make sure your holding tank valve is OFF. You could have sea water backing up into your tank and overflowing.

    Want to purchase a 2006-2008 Marlin 30- ???

Agree with all comments, especially TM. The 300s are the perfect match. I have the 225s since the 250s did not come until 2005. They do fine but a few knots higher cruise would be nice on occasion. The Marlin is an awesome fishing and cruising boat and will handle way more seas than you will...

    NADA Pricing and real life??

Boats can vary widely in options, rigging, engines, etc. Most folks don't even bother with NADA. The best measure of the value is comparing what similar models are selling for on BoatTrader and Yachtworlds. You can also check dealer prices for preowned boats on most websites.

    Hard top Delaminating

That sounds more like gelcoat cracking. I believe the hardtop is molded as a solid price. Any good gelcoat repair person should be able to address the issue. Very common on any boat of that age.

    Foul Odor In Freshwater System

I used to put AquaTabs in (one per 5 gallons). They worked GREAT. Nothing else I have tried worked except for bleach which is a PITA. AquaTabs do not seem to be available any more. Bummer. :(

    NOAA Small Craft Advisory Question

... There is no precise definition of a small craft. Any vessel that may be adversely affected by Small Craft Advisory criteria should be considered a small craft. Other considerations include the experience of the vessel operator, and the type, overall size, and sea worthiness of the vessel...

    NOAA Small Craft Advisory Question

It is taught in USCG boating courses that there is no definition of small craft. Common test question. This may be of interest. http://www.nws.noaa.gov/om/marine/cwd.htm

    290 Chesapeake

Dunno. I would guess they want to give it a chance as the economy improves. I agree it is too close to a 300 and really hate to see the long history of the Sailfish come to a close. It would not surprise me to see it reincarnated with a genny. I believe GW has too many models but that is just...

7/8/2010 - the next generation point sur report

Great. Pretty boat BTW. Is that a 4 ft array on the radar? Excuse the ignorance but what species are the redish fish?

Big Furuno fan here. Go to the charter docs and see what the pros use.

    290 Chesapeake

I agree with most of the 290 comments. The intention was to address some long term needs for the Sailfish but the form wound up close to the 30x hull. The factory folks told me that the Marlin is still more boat which is especially evident in the cockpit. I believe the 208 is the best seller...

    Spots on deck

Welcome to the board. For really tough stains I used BarKeeper's Friend and a green scotchbrite scrub pad. Both are available at the grocery store.

When is it normal to start pounding ?

The first step I do when going into headsea if pounding begins is to trim the engines ALL the way down. This forces the bow down. The next step is to put the tabs until the landings soften enough or the tabs are fully down. The third step is adjust speed until hard landings are very...
