    New Grady Paint Color

I painted my 268 Islander myself a few years ago. AwlGrip AwlCraft 2000 sprayed. Looks like new boat. I highly recommend it. Painting the hull is easy. You are painting from the rub rail to the waterline. The hard part was removing factory striping and decals. Boat had a vinyl name on it...

1997 Islander 268 Transom Rebuild Project

How hard can it be? Google AI: For a 1997 Grady-White Islander with twin outboards using Coosa board and epoxy, the inside method is highly recommended. Grady-White boats feature a heavy, reinforced exterior fiberglass skin and integrated splashwells that provide critical structural rigidity...

1997 Islander 268 Transom Rebuild Project

Project changing...people only know what they want to hear. I'm going to start to take things apart. See where it goes. The EuroTransom GW's are not tall transoms. They rely heavily on the aluminum angle in the transom. This 8" or so aluminum bracket inside the transom is critical. I want an...

    Fuel....whats going on?

Is your boat in the water and you have run it this season? Or is a pre-launch check of the fuel filter? Single engine single filter or twin engine two filters? Which tank did the fuel come out of? The new tank or the old tank? Where the o-rings on the fuel fills replaced? What type of fuel? With...

    Opinions on this Transom

Transom looks good. No swelling of bang cap. Bang cap in great shape. Rub rail edges look good. Robbie was not in the shop - I didn’t get to talk to him. This boat is worth the trip from NY to see and make your deal.

    South Pacific sinking

Download Owners Manual from GW. Call Grady White Customer Service. They may be able to provide some documentation - the boat is only 14 years old. Looks like the last year the offered a 209 Fisherman was 2016 but they still make a 180 and 216 Fisherman in 2026. I doubt you will find a wiring...

    Fuel....whats going on?

looks like fuel floating on water. Teaspoon some off of top and bottom. Carefully see which one burns. You have been fighting water in fuel for a long time. What's changed to make the problem go away?

    Opinions on this Transom

Transom problems are not cosmetic. All Grady White owners of older generation boats are in denial that they have a transom problem. Maybe? I have been watching my transom replacements for 10 years. I'm going to finaly do my 268 Islander this summer. Bang cap and plywood construction. Unlikely...

    Opinions on this Transom

Where in NJ? I'm suspicious of that port side. From the picture the gelcoat looks expanded. New bang cap. You need to be careful with this.

1997 Islander 268 Transom Rebuild Project

That filler looked like NC parking lot sand mixed with some binder. It was heavy, rock hard and brittle. No reinforcing. Sat on top of transom wood and filled up to the aluminum L-bracket. Some of that slop was poured around the stringer connection too. This is a starboard side inside view...

1997 Islander 268 Transom Rebuild Project

I had your input on Young's. I met with them a few years back (Danny?). Talking to Joe at Signature on a strong recommendation from a shop that uses them a lot for transom problems! We'll see!

    Anyone do Coast Guard registration?

Not necessary unless you are not in international waters (like Bahamas). May not be needed even then. Fed numbers are etched inside boat and not displayed. State registration/tax required to be paid. Bahamas trip was easy back in the 90's but not so anymore. Highly regulated/taxed/fee'ed now...

    Triple Rod Holders??

This is mainly for my sailfishing which is eight TLD15's. It works for me because it's only clearing and storage. Maybe the 3 rod tridents would work for you.

    330 express

Depends on what you are looking for. Most likley the model you have is obsolete and discontinued. I replaced the TV on another boat I own with one from Amazon. I needed 12 VDC power and smart TV features. Lots of choices though...

    Rod holder quality

GW doesn't use an aggressive adhesive caulk on anything I have removed. Usually is't a silicone product. The holders on my 268 Islander were cheap GW logo'ed ones with plastic bases and pins. They looked ok but the plastic pins sheared and didn't hold the rod properly. I drilled them out and put...

    236 Fisherman stereo upgrade

I installed a 8" JL on the port side inside the cabin going down the steps. Pulled the refrigerator and installed a Fusion AMP inside the opening and put the refrigerator back. I decided where to put it and what would fit before buying it though.

1997 Islander 268 Transom Rebuild Project

Projects are always easier if you can get someone else to do them for you! I'm talking to a few guys to see if it will work out. UPDATE: I spent 2 hours today with a local shop on the boat going over my transom project. I was very impressed. Should be able to start on it by the end of the...

Gulfstream Shopping - potential bracket issues?

It's not a bracket issue. It's a swollen transom. That shiny bolt has no gelcoat around it. The washer is recessed. The transom wood expanded from years of being wet and the surrounding wood "popped"! The brown ooze is plywood glue and wood stain. I doubt an independent surveyor would tell you...
