    2016 GulfStream 232 windless install

It’s not the hinge that tears out. The hatch wedging into the recess is quite strong. I was distracted and leaned on “up” instead of down. Tore the hatch out at the hinges. Fabricated a 3/4” plywood as a temp. Then built a mold and fabricated a Coosa board version.

    2016 GulfStream 232 windless install

My windlass was installed on anchor locker hatch. Pulls and drops anchor line into locker. Switched to Lewmar ProFish. Works fine but if you are not careful I have heard you can tear the hatch out!

?Problem with AGM batteries in new Grady White boats

I have had a number of ProMariner chargers over the years. First thing I would check is the inline fuses at each of the batteries. I cooked several of them on different units. They load shift and if certain batteries are run down the amperage would heat up the cheap fuse holders and they would...

    New Grady Paint Color

Thank you! I fish the big tournaments in Cape May area on a friend's boat. I walk the docks and see a couple hundred 50 to 90 foot production to full custom battlewagons each year. Most are painted. A few are wraps. Michael Jordan's $15 million dollar 82' Catch 23 is a wrap (elephant...

    New Grady Paint Color

Wraps are an alternative but not my first choice. The AwlGrip AwlCraft 2000 is a stunning repairable finish. I couldn’t be happier with it.

    Fuel....whats going on?

You did all the right things. I fought water in fuel problems for a number of years. Particularly early in the year when I took my boat South to Florida. I tried stabilizers. switched to running only ethanol-free fuel, installed O-rings on fuel fills (mine were non-existent). A few times I...

    Fuel tanks

20 years ago GW didn't do the best job insulating the contact points for the tanks. The adhesive on the neoprene strips breaks down, strips move and trap water. Over time this corrodes the bottom of the tank. Even the top of the tank under the mounting blocks. On my 268 Islander the step had to...

1997 Islander 268 Transom Rebuild Project

I'm back to doing the transom myself. It will be done from the inside with epoxy and Coosa board. Oil removed from engines last weekend. Waiting on a friend to drop off his backhoe to lift the engines off. Store on shipping frames.

    99 Islander 268 top options

I have a 1997 268 Islander. It's not going to be easy to find a hardtop and tower. If you do condition and refinishing it will be a big factor. And you will need an enclosure made. I refinished my hardtop, tower and enclosure a few years back. Everyone I talked to told me to just build new...

    New Grady Paint Color

I painted my 268 Islander myself a few years ago. AwlGrip AwlCraft 2000 sprayed. Looks like new boat. I highly recommend it. Painting the hull is easy. You are painting from the rub rail to the waterline. The hard part was removing factory striping and decals. Boat had a vinyl name on it...

1997 Islander 268 Transom Rebuild Project

How hard can it be? Google AI: For a 1997 Grady-White Islander with twin outboards using Coosa board and epoxy, the inside method is highly recommended. Grady-White boats feature a heavy, reinforced exterior fiberglass skin and integrated splashwells that provide critical structural rigidity...

1997 Islander 268 Transom Rebuild Project

Project changing...people only know what they want to hear. I'm going to start to take things apart. See where it goes. The EuroTransom GW's are not tall transoms. They rely heavily on the aluminum angle in the transom. This 8" or so aluminum bracket inside the transom is critical. I want an...

    Fuel....whats going on?

Is your boat in the water and you have run it this season? Or is a pre-launch check of the fuel filter? Single engine single filter or twin engine two filters? Which tank did the fuel come out of? The new tank or the old tank? Where the o-rings on the fuel fills replaced? What type of fuel? With...

    Opinions on this Transom

Transom looks good. No swelling of bang cap. Bang cap in great shape. Rub rail edges look good. Robbie was not in the shop - I didn’t get to talk to him. This boat is worth the trip from NY to see and make your deal.

    South Pacific sinking

Download Owners Manual from GW. Call Grady White Customer Service. They may be able to provide some documentation - the boat is only 14 years old. Looks like the last year the offered a 209 Fisherman was 2016 but they still make a 180 and 216 Fisherman in 2026. I doubt you will find a wiring...

    Fuel....whats going on?

looks like fuel floating on water. Teaspoon some off of top and bottom. Carefully see which one burns. You have been fighting water in fuel for a long time. What's changed to make the problem go away?

    Opinions on this Transom

Transom problems are not cosmetic. All Grady White owners of older generation boats are in denial that they have a transom problem. Maybe? I have been watching my transom replacements for 10 years. I'm going to finaly do my 268 Islander this summer. Bang cap and plywood construction. Unlikely...

Where in NJ? I'm suspicious of that port side. From the picture the gelcoat looks expanded. New bang cap. You need to be careful with this.
