Lewmar Pro Fish 700/1000 Windlass on a Marlin 300

Yes, the gypsy will only accept the one specified chain. The one downside to going up to 5/16 G40 chain and gypsy is then you have to use 9/16 line and for the Marlin 1/2-inch line is fine in my view.

Lewmar Pro Fish 700/1000 Windlass on a Marlin 300

You can get either gypsy on the 700. The 5/16 chain is heavier and helps lead the shank of the anchor near the seabed better. Either one will work. The 1000 is a better match for your Marlin. It's all just choices and they are yours to make. Good luck and show us some pictures as you go along...

Where to mount EPIRB on a Freedom 285?

Most calls for help aren't due to risk of sinking. I would guess that it's from lack of fuel, broken down, grounded, medical emergencies all are more common than going down. That said, I think the manufacturer put it in an out of sight accessible locker, so it is out of the way and since it's an...

228 owners - have any of you moved the aft bilge pump?

Maybe move it up to the bow in the anchor locker. It would be easily accessible up there.

Electrical issue, nav lights on at start with switch off 2013 Freedom 225

It's a good idea to make it a point not to power your chart plotter from the same battery that is subjected to heavy draws like engine start, windlass/capstan function, pot puller etc. It will prevent your plotter from shutting down and having to go through start-up every time something big is...

Lewmar Pro Fish 700/1000 Windlass on a Marlin 300

Jesti, I have installed both in different boats. Spring for the 1000 and make sure it's the Pro model to get free-fall. Running heavier wire and breaker is no big deal. Be sure to specify a gypsy for 5/16 chain.

    Windlass anchor not tight

As long as the tip of the anchor is not hitting the fiberglass of the bow, you're good. I couldn't tell if you have a restraint on the chain, but it's a necessity when running fast or on the highway.

    Chain vs nylon anchor rode

One thing to consider is if you don't use all SS chain,(and it's spendy) the anchor hold will become a terrible rusty mess after a few years soaking in salt. Even hot dipped galvanize will fall victim.

    Prop Diameter

You didn't say if the ventilation plate is almost even with the hulls keel when trimmed level. It kinda sounds like the motor leg is too short. Is the leg 25" or 20". If the prop is running in the shadow of the transom, it will ventilate at speed.

    Offshore bracket hull penetration leaks

That possibility of water getting between the bracket and the transom is more like a guarantee. I would be very surprised if a boat the age of yours does not have a wet transom. It's not the end of the world but you can almost see it from there. It's just something to deal with and move on. The...

    Sheared Hardtop Bolts

If there is room in your situation, drill out the holes to accept 5/16 bolts to get an extra load capacity over the original 1/4".

    2016 GulfStream 232 windless install

I like 5/16 chain, partly because it makes a smoother transition for the gypsy to start swallowing the 1/2 inch line and the extra weight of the heavier chain helps the anchor set, but if the splice is made for you and it runs through the gypsy well then you're good to go.

    2016 GulfStream 232 windless install

Your chain to rope splice is going to be tight trying to splice 1/2 inch line to a 1/4 inch chain link. 1/2 inch line likes 5/16 chain. I normally pair 3/8 line with 1/4 inch chain and 1/2 inch line with 5/16 chain. The gypsy is easily changed out if your dealer will let you exchange the 1/4...

    Gulfstream trailering ?

My opinion is, you will be fine. Short distance, very seldom use, you should be fine if you keep your speed down. The extra width is usually not noticed unless you have to cross some scales on your route. To make things as good as you can, make sure there is disc brakes on both axles. If money...

Same as Coastboater here. Just connect your Garmin to a NMEA 2000 system and all your other instruments will be able to make use of it. Like your VHS, autopilot, or any NMEA 2000 capable gizmo.
