Looking for material to replace your dash panels?

As of Oct 2019 the overlay was holding up very well. Still looks like new when I sold the boat :)

    282 Sailfish rear sun shade

Hi, I have a 2002 282 Sailfish and would like to add a rear sunshade. Does anyone have one of these and if so, where did you get it? I would think it's a common enough boat that there is already a design done, so I don't have to pay a custom maker to design one. I would to keep it simple, canvas...

    Captain chair arms

I've had good luck using Duplicolor vinyl paint on my previous boat to restore the combing pads. I'm looking to restore the pads on my 02 282 Sailfish and found SEM makes a color in marine vinyl paint that's a pretty close match. It's called Sea Ray mystic white. For $20 or so (price with...

    282 Sailfish Spotlight mounting location

I do like the idea of having it up at the bow like you show. I could wire a connector into the anchor locker hatch so I could remove the unit when not using it. Just need to come up with a way to mount it so it can be removed/installed easily.

Vinyl Paint to match Grady Vinyl

I found SEM has a color called Sea Ray Mystic White that's very close to the vinyl on my 2002 282 Sailfish. Problem is no one around CT has it and it's costly to ship.

    282 Sailfish Spotlight mounting location

Thanks guys. I'm going to put it on the roof next to the radar. I'll play around with the front to back positioning at night to see how the deck glare looks before deciding on a final spot.

    282 Sailfish Spotlight mounting location

Thanks guys. You setups look nice. Elevating the radar is not a preferred option. I'm considering either mounting on top of the dome, or off to one side. I've read some discussions about glare off the bow if the light is too close to the front of the rooftop. Fishbust with that position do you...

    282 Sailfish Spotlight mounting location

Hi, I'm looking for ideas for mounting a remote spot on my 282 Sailfish. I would like to mount it under the lip of the roof but the light mfg says not to mount the light upside down. Also I'm reading about glare issues unless the light is shielded from the bow. Another thought is on the roof...

Vinyl Paint to match Grady Vinyl

Hi, I am looking for vinyl paint to match the bolsters on my 2002 Grady Sailfish. I believe the vinyl color is Seaquest Chalk. I've redone the vinyl on my previous boat using Dupicolor paint and it came out really nice. I was hoping to find a match for the Grady vinyl. Does anyone know of...

    HPDI Water Pump Collar

Haha, yes it looks like we both had the same idea. I'm always on the job 8) . I've been a volunteer FF/EMT for 28 years.

    HPDI Water Pump Collar

Alright, I answered my own question. I used a large metric adjustable wrench and set it for just over the size of the shaft, then slid the wrench over the shaft just above the collar and hit it down with a rubber mallet (metric or standard mallet, doesn't matter). Whew!

    HPDI Water Pump Collar

Hi, Does anyone have any tips or tricks to get the metal collar over the plastic sleeve that goes over the top of the water pump impeller on the HPDI's (2002 200HP)? How much force should I be applying to that collar to get it on. From what I read around the net, it just "slips" on. That's not...

    HPDI Auxiliary charging lead

RobertH that's impressive that you still have a battery from 2000 going strong. Goes to show they didn't skimp on the plate material. Tunaman, as for the Aux charging lead, with the cover off look on the starboard side of the motor for a heavy red wire (10 gauge or so) with a black connector on...

    HPDI Auxiliary charging lead

I was going through my 282 Sailfish manual looking for the wiring diagram and came across the battery to selector switch wiring drawing. It clearly shows 2 batteries in parallel on the #1 side of the switch, just the way my boat is wired. I thought it wasn't recommended to wire 2 batteries in...

    HPDI Auxiliary charging lead

Thank you for the replies and discussion. I will run a lead from one of the motors auxiliary charging lead to my house battery. When I got the boat last year, they had a deep cycle in parallel with a starting battery. At one point soon after I got the boat I noticed the deep cycle smoking and...

Looking for material to replace your dash panels?

I just redid both panels on my 282 Sailfish using carbon fiber overlay. The material was all of $10 on eBay. I posted a picture in another post here in this forum. I'll provide an update at the end of the season to let you know how it held up.

    HPDI Auxiliary charging lead

Hi, I'm considering using the auxiliary charging output from one of my 200HP HPDI's on the house battery. The way the boat came, there were 3 batteries. Two were in parallel for stb and house, and one was all alone for port. The AC shore charger uses 2 outputs, one for each "bank". I don't like...

    Hull-N-Bilge Cleaning

I've had good success with Bar Keepers Friend for cleaning the hull and topsides. It works really well on fiberglass staining and grime removal.

2002 Grady 282 Sailfish Dash panel replacement

Thank you fishbust. Overall I'm very happy with the way it came out. I installed it in the boat yesterday and got everything wired up correctly. Both new panels look good on the dash. I just wish I could find a source for replacement actuators that have reasonable prices.

2002 Grady 282 Sailfish Dash panel replacement

Here's the new panel with most of the switches. Next time I need to be more careful with the alignment of the pattern :-|
