282 Sailfish. How to access windscreen wiper motor?

I was attempting to change my electric horn when the electrical cable dropped back thru the hole and I assume into the same area inside the cab as the windscreen wiper motor, sometime in the past someone had just twisted the wires together when extending them!!! I have tried to remove the wiper...

    Repower of 282 Sailfish

Awesome. I can see that your scuppers sit well above the water line, which on my earlier model boat has never been the case. I have only heard positive feedback about the latest Suzukis. Nice that your transom is rated for 600HP, mine goes like a hot rod with 500HP so your must go like a rocket!

    Repower of 282 Sailfish

I was going to do the same but found all my hoses were in excellent condition, no doubt GW installs top quality gear. Check that your 2006 boat is rated for 600HP otherwise you will have insurance and safety risks. My 2002 was rated for 500HP Max, earlier models were rated at 400HP Max. The...

    Repower of 282 Sailfish

Roberto the 'touch' on the water is the same as with the Yam HPDIs. The performance all around is so much better and the handling and balance of the boat seems so much better perhaps because it always felt under powered previously with the 200HP engines. The leg length is the same as the old...

    What weight anchor 28' - 30' boat?

Yes, I find the 22lbs plow sits solidly, but it is a large anchor to manage, but that could be because the anchor I bought is pretty utalitarian in design and if I look harder I may find a unit that is designed to allow smoother operation. Thanks, helpful.

    What weight anchor 28' - 30' boat?

Yes, the way I anchor is probably part of the problem. Chasing bait, amongst other boats in close proximity does not let me lay out the anchor and chain as I would if I was overnighting in more open water. Thanks, helpful.

    Yamaha repower questions

Yes, to me it all became about the weight for my older model boat. On a newer boat I might have made it more about price, but the Mercs were about the same price anyway....but I had to wait 4 months for them to arrive. Demand for them was high if after the 250HP and 300HP engines.

    Repower of 282 Sailfish

Sure WRX. I have had this boat for 10 years here in Sydney now, and had a good run from the Yamaha 200HP HPDIs until one failed. It was a US import back in 2008. Maybe I will see you out at Brown's Mountain some time! Cheers.

    Repower of 282 Sailfish

No they are not Verados. The engine mount system on the Verados is very different and there are some differences between the way the V8 Verado and V8 Four Stroke is configured, but the V8 is a much more reliable platform than the supercharged V6 of the recent past.

    What weight anchor 28' - 30' boat?

The last item on my 282 Sailfish upgrade is the anchor. We anchor whilst fishing for bait or having family our for a swim, so we are never in wind more than 20mph, plus tide. I have enough rope and a boat length of chain to which the boat had a 5kg (11lb) fluke (sand) anchor, which was...

    Repower of 282 Sailfish

Early in 2020 I repowered my 2002 282 Sailfish with two Mercury 250HP Four Strokes. Unbelievable balance and power with these engines. With the 282 out of the water I also completed a complete refurbish, installed fuel filter water alarms, electric steering, digital throttle, wet sand/cut/polish...

OK, well just to complete this thread early in 2020 I repowered my 2002 282 Sailfish with two Mercury 250HP Four Strokes. Unbelievable balance and power with these engines. Yamaha repower questions

So the latest question results from my communications with Grady White customer service (who are great). They said that on the 2002 and later model Sailfish, they raised the scuppers to accomodate the heavier 4 stroke engines making the boat sit lower in the water. Has anyone needed to make a...

    Yamaha repower questions

Yes, on an old boat it will be a price based decision mostly. Hull still in great shape though.

    Yamaha repower questions

Well I can now confirm that whilst my boat was first sold and registered in mid 2002, it is a 2001 model 282 Sailfish made in November 2001 based on the Hull ID Number (thanks for the threads on GreatGrady that allowed me to unravel this). I will send the Hull ID Number to GW to try to figure...

    Yamaha repower questions

Thanks Mr Crab and OCNSR, Interestingly the only difference on the page of my manual (see below) is the 450HP vs your 500HP above, OCNSR. I guess if the Marlin goes well with the 225HP Yamaha 4 Strokes, then so should the 282 which is a lighter boat. Obviously you found no problems with the...

    Yamaha repower questions

Hi All, Good to read the thread, as it appears I have blown one engine. I guess all of your comments relate to repowering with 4 Stroke engines? I have a 2002 Sailfish 282 with Yamaha 200HP HPDIs, with about 1,000 hours use. Given the changes to laws there are not many 2 stroke options and to be...

Remove cabin dome light, 282 Sailfish

For the record, I got the light off; it was 'heat bonded' onto the roof liner after the boat's many years in the sun. I could not believe how much twisting force was required to pop it off. A small spot of damage to the roof liner behind the light fitting where it was most stuck. The power...
