    Matching (or close) Bottom Paint

To illustrate Dennis's comment regarding ablatives, this is what 15 years of not caring about ablative bottom paint looks like on a trailer boat. It's gone at the water line where we do more scrubbing of harbor scum and also where the trailer bunks rub. Everywhere else it's still very effective.

Free 1987 Grady White 228 Seafarer for sale

Listing was just deleted by the author... A Grady hull that is floating and looked in decent shape for free would be a steal. Though it had been sitting for a while judging by the growth on the lower unit.

Can you help me ID this part?

That one is likely a Perko 0554 / 0554DP https://www.perko.com/catalog/cabinet_hardware/514/door_catch/ But that Seadog one in SkunkBoat's post looks like a more durable version of the same thing.

    Grady wash down pump

Probably mounted somewhere to the inside of the transom. If you don't know where the inlet side is, follow the hose from the output side. Or if it's working, turn the pump on and see if you can hear where the sound is coming from. If the boat is on a trailer, you can look under the boat and see...

1996 Grady gel coat touch up

I second the Spectrum Color gelcoat. They'll have a version for the 1995-2004 model years. My experience with it is it's about as perfect a match as you can get. I used it a couple years ago on a deck hatch patch, and you have to really look hard to see the difference. I can't find the...

    1998 208 Fuel Tank

A 1998 hull will have an 82 gallon plastic tank. My hull is a 1995 model HIN that was molded in 1998 after the original hull delaminated and was replaced under warranty. It came back with a plastic tank, bronze thru-hulls, and a bow pulpit, that were upgrades over the original hull's aluminum...

    anyone install a thu-hull for washdown in a 208

This is exactly where mine are too. Two of them, one on each side of the keel near the transom, accessible internally via the inspection ports in the splash well.

    Trim tabs

I am in 100% agreement with you. When I bought my 208, I was told I didn't need them. But after a year or two wishing I had them, I installed them myself. Best upgrade to the boat I've ever done. I'd never own another boat without them. Even on days people say you don't need them, I always at...

How far out in the ocean would you travel from land?

We were on a 20 foot Proline and we got towed in at 10 knots... that's probably faster than a kicker would move us, but when you factor in the 8 hours of waiting time (and the uneasiness of being far enough out VHF radio comms were not a given), kickering in at 4 or 5 knots would have been...

How far out in the ocean would you travel from land?

Boat US has an unlimited towing plan (at least on the west coast) where they'll come get you wherever you are, so I'd recommend looking into upgrading your membership as you start to get more comfortable with your boat and want to venture further out. I've taken my 208 out 70 miles offshore a...

    Odd Fuel Gauge Issue

I agree with this assessment. Almost every whiskey tango foxtrot electrical issue I've encountered that makes no sense is from electrons finding a path to ground they shouldn't be taking... (well, actually positrons since electrons flow from ground to +voltage, but I digress...). There's likely...

    Twin motors not staring start

I had a boat and a truck with that problem... both small block Chevy engines. Problem in both of them was a bad distributor cap that was letting moisture get inside the distributor. Once the sun came up and it warmed up, the moisture evaporated and the motors would start up fine. The band-aid...

    Twin motors not staring start

I'm with SkunkBoat and glacierbaze on this. The biggest clue so far is that both motors acting the same, therefore problem is likely something common to both, and electrical makes more sense than fuel in this scenario... that leads me to something like the kill switch circuit which would kill...

    Electrical problem of the day

I might be tempted to redo the whole thing and replace it with connectors that are more water tight... but knowing me, that project could snowball quickly and turn into rewiring the entire boat... :)

trim tabs 2000 adventure, any input?

I don't disagree with you... put the biggest tabs you can fit. In my case, it was going to require rearranging too much stuff and the 22 foot Gradys at one point in time (many years ago when I was deciding which size to install) came stock from Grady with 12x9's, and looking around the yard...

trim tabs 2000 adventure, any input?

Bennett recommends 18x9 for the 208. But with a transom mount transducer, there's not really any room for 18's, so we went with 12x9 and they do just fine.
