REPOWER: Time for new outboards???? Need advice

HPDI's x3. Repowered last year and after my initial struggles with wanting four strokes, the only ones available at the time that would fit the bracket and did not weight too much were the Suzukis. They are excellent motors, but the dealer/service network her in C FL isn't the best. I...

what is a good price for engines

Having been through the used motor market myself a year ago, I never could find a decent reference for prices on used engines. Condition is going to play the deciding factor on how much you are willing to pay. You need to have them checked out by a Yamaha Mechanic including compression...

Help from the Sailfish guys on thru hulls

Capt. B - do you have the model #s of the Attwood SS Scuppers that you used? Do you have two side by side; total of four on your Sailfish?

Help from the Sailfish guys on thru hulls

Lots of talk recently regarding thru hulls, replacement and such. I inspected my plastic ones this weekend and they are getting to the point they need done. I had a post bookmarked from one of the 90's sailfish owners on this board that was the step by step guide, and I believe also had the...

    Yamaha FMS and GPS connection

That web site is part of the Boats.net which is actually Central Florida Yamaha (Lake Placid, FL). They repowered my Grady earlier this year. Got a great deal on the motors, rigging, etc. Top rate bunch and great prices. They pay the sales tax for FL residents too for the internet orders.

    200hpdi's trolling problems anyone?

After the first tanks of Yamalube, I switched to Amsoil HP injector oil. I don't really think there is much of a difference but I get a slightly better deal going with the Amsoil. No experience running Pennzoil. Speaking for newer HPDI's, the owners manual says there is no adjustment, nor...

    200hpdi's trolling problems anyone?

My HPDIs have been flawless on the troll but so were the old 200 carbed Yamis I had before these. You didn't say what type of oil you use. A full synthetic may also help.

    A Sad Sight!

Sorry to hear it guys. Lived in Ohio for 23 years and remember having to pull the boat, winterize, shrinkwrap, etc. I waxed and buffed out the Sailfish this past weekend, replaced the fuel filters and mounted new cabin rodholders. Next week we head to Islamorada for a whole week of fishing...

    How to remove dome-light lens

Captn Bill. Had to replace the spreader switch in mine last year. There was a small set screw in the depression on the ring of the lense/frame towards the bow. Taking that out allowed the lense to be removed. Yours maybe different but I didn't initially see the screw until I got my head all...

    fuel efficiency questions on 360

e10 does not have the same energy content as straight gasoline. It has been said that mileage is roughly 10% less than straight gasoline.

    Fuel consumption based on flowscan

The model 9000 I have gives you instanteous gph by engine, total gallons for the trip or total burned since last reset, and mpg or nmpg depending on how you have the GPS setup. I decided to stay with the FLOSCAN even though the new motors came with Yamaha's FMS. As long as you spend some time...

    Fuel consumption based on flowscan

Our 93 Sailfish with carbed 200 yamahas would have delivered about that same number on a windy day, at that speed, and with enclosure up (lots of resistance). A couple of things to consider: How confident are you that your floscan is/was calibrated? Does it interface with the GPS to give...

What's needed to change from 1990 Yamaha's to 2003 HDI

Like Grog said. Also, you will need to replace the oil tanks below deck as the design changed for the HPDIs. Just went through this repower myself (93 200 Yammies to 2008 200 HPDIs). Our controls were ok, but decided to go ahead and replace all the controls, gauges, cables and battery cables...

Carbed 200 Yammies on a 25' Sailfish - Fuel burn?

Brian, My Sailfish is a 93. We just repowered to brand new HPDI 200s. My old 93 carbed 200 Yamahas delivered around 1.0 to 1.2 nmpg with the black SS 15x17 yami props. Never could get better mileage. A little to early to tell on our new mileage since I only have one trip, but looks like...

    270 Islander

The 250 and 300 HPDIs have a bad history. Not sure about the 150 HPDIs. Yamaha is re-releasing the HPDIs in a big block version meant to take on the ETECs in the bass boat world. They only come in 20 inch lower units so no good for the big offshore boats.

    270 Islander

The 200 HPDIs are rock solid reliable, fast and weight around 100lbs less per engine than 4-strokes. Still have to use oil. But you don't have to adjust valves, change oil, etc. I think it is basically a wash (4-stroke maintenance v. 2-stroke oil). The economy should be similar to 4-strokes...

    Grady-drive engine spacing?

Decided on the Yamaha HPDI 200s. It was a hard decision. Looked at Optis, Suzuki, Etec and Yamahas HPDIs due to the limitations on the bracket and 26" centers. I found a good deal on a pair of leftover 200 Suzukis (about $2k less than the HPDIs) but the extra weight and dealer network had me...
