    Don’t change your thermostat

A guy told me not to change the thermostats on my 1996 OX66 Yamaha outboard because I risk breaking the bolts off. My outboard has super low hours (like 200) and virtually no signs of corrosion under the cowling. But the outboard is 27 years old. Has anyone else broken these bolts?

Close the bow on a Tournament 192?

We live in Santa Barbara and routinely take our 19 footer across the 25 mile channel to the islands. We have yet to fully poke the bow on our Grady, but it is certainly in the realm of possible. The local commercial boats (mostly by Don Radon) are all closed bow. So we think it makes sense to...

    Striped plugs on a yamaha

How easy is it to strip the plug threads on a Yamaha outboard. I’ve done plenty of mechanical work in my day…but I don’t have a torque wrench and it always makes me nervous. I used a 8” ratchet and deliberately thought not to overtighten….but I don’t want them to vibrate out. Am I being overly...

    Ox66 missing a gasket?

I changed the impeller on my 175 ox66 two stroke and everything went well. But when I went to reattach the lower end, it looked like it might be missing an exhaust gasket with a kind of 6 sided shape. I ordered it based on the Yamaha schematics, but that one now appears to be higher up in the...

what happened? 2 stroke oil overflowed and in my exhaust?

I tilted my 175 HP OX66 all the way up...and left the key turned onto accessory. About a day later I noticed the stinking thing had pumped probably a gallon of two stroke oil and had leaked onto the ground. The real surprise to me was that there is oil in my air intake on the lowest carburetor...

    Ox66 outboard for wakeboarding?

Stupid question. Is my Yamaha 175 saltwater series outboard (1996) suited for pulling kids behind my Grady 192. I’m new to outboards and just don’t want to abuse the thing with going in and out of gear and such. I have a Nautique lake boat with an inboard and I’m thinking about selling it if my...

Fuel sending unit... easy or can of worms

My 1997 tournament 192 needs a new fuel sending unit. Obviously it’s just a few bolts and couple of wires. But I’m wondering if everything goes back together ok, or does it crumble in your hands. It’s the original fuel tank. Anyone replaced one of these. Thanks

Lessons learned for a new Tournament 192 owner

After literally five years of searching we finally found a ridiculously clean 192 here in California. Let me give you some details while the purchase is still fresh and Im still in the honeymoon phase. The boat is a 1997, so I was obviously very concerned about the million problems that can come...
