Vehicle and trailer to tow Freedom 225

Thanks everyone, you have given me a lot to think about. I checked with Uhaul and the F150s they rent can only tow 5,600 lb., so no help there. I just read where Chrysler is coming out with a new diesel Grand Cherokee that can tow over 7,000 lb. BMW is re-designing the X5 for 2014, so maybe...

Vehicle and trailer to tow Freedom 225

Currently our boat is in rack storage and that works well for us most of the time, since we primarily use it on the Indian River near our home. Last week we drove to the keys to visit friends and wished we had the boat with us. Since then, I have been researching tow vehicles and trailers. 1...

    255 freedom with 500 hp ( advise please )

They probably re-rated it (and maybe other models) to accommodate the new, lighter Yamaha F200XBs which weigh slightly more than the F150. WorldCat did that years ago on some models as lighter, more powerful 4 strokes evolved.

    255 freedom with 500 hp ( advise please )

The OP referred to engine weight in kilograms instead of pounds, so he may be from a different country. They may have different laws governing how boats may be rated regarding maximum horsepower. Just a thought.

    255 freedom with 500 hp ( advise please )

The performance report on the Grady White web site shows a Freedom 255 with the max F350 tops out at over 51 mph. That is faster than my boat and I only run WOT occasionally for about 30 seconds on the way in, just to "blow it out". Twin Honda 250s would weigh in at over 1200 lbs and might...

    New 265 Express Owner

Very nice!!! Why did they ever stop making that model?

    It must be Spring because

It is called "duratrim" and Grady began using it instead of teak to reduce boat maintenance. I had it on my 1993 208 and it looked good until I sold the boat 5 years later. The trim on my newer 225 appears to be starboard. Someone on this site may know how to re-fresh duratrim to look new again.

    gelcoat polishing need advice

The following link has another discussion on boat and car polishing and waxing. Reading it convinced me to buy the Ultima Paint Guard plus for my boat and car. http://www.thehulltruth.com/boating-for ... t-wax.html

Marine cooler vs using fish box

When cruising with just a few people, I use a 6-pack cooler and put it inside the fish box. That way it doesn't slide around and is out of the way. For larger groups, the fish box, live well and bow coolers work great. Frozen bait or chum stays in an old playmate cooler designated just for...

    gelcoat polishing need advice

I just ordered some Ultima Paint Guard Plus from Autogeek. Users claim it is as good as the best paste waxes with no buffing. Here is a discussion on hit from The Hull Truth: http://www.thehulltruth.com/boating-for ... lcoat.html

    where/how to store spare prop?

Someone from the Whaler (continuous wave) web site recommended storing a spare prop in an old cooler, like an igloo playmate. That also leaves room for prop hardware and a few tools while protecting the prop and things it may bump into.

My New Freedom 225 is in the Driveway

Congrats and excellent choice on your new boat. Ron and the folks at Tri-State Marine sold us our first Grady, a 208 Adventure at the Washington Boat Show in February of 1993. They were great to deal with. Enjoy, as I know you will.

Online source for fluids (yamalube/ring free/stabil, etc)?

Re: Online source for fluids (yamalube/ring free/stabil, etc I buy Yamaha Ringfree and Yamaha Fuel Stabilizer and Conditioner Plus from http://www.domo-online.com. They had the best prices I found and also sell most brands of outboard motor oil.

Trade the Grady for a bay boat?

Couldn't you add a hardtop to your Freedom 225 with additional rod holders? Or add vertical rod holders to the transom on both sides of the stern seat. Trading boats is expensive and you already have one of the best boats made.

    Operating Cost

I do not know the operating costs for a 272, but I can give you an idea of what it costs us for a Freedom 225 with a Yamaha F250XCA. 1. Indoor rack storage in a great location near an inlet: $303 per month. 2. Insurance: 45 per month. 3. Fuel about 8 gph overall when mostly cruising...

    New Man On The Block

You did not mention whether or not you will be sleeping onboard. If not, a center console or dual console with a head on board may fit your needs. We used to have a 208 and now have a Freedom 225 dual console. The head area is large enough for my 6'1" frame to fit in tightly, but it is easier...

More Kicker Questions for a 228 (or larger)

I have a Tohatsu 9.8 4-stroke on my Catalina 250 wing keel sailboat. It has the 25" shaft, a large diameter 4 bladed 5.5" pitch prop, an alternator, and electric start. At 92.6 lbs., it is by far the lightest 9.8 4-stroke available. It pushes my 4200 lb. sailboat to it's 6.2 knots hull speed at...

how much gas in my tank ?

The 208 holds 82 gallons of fuel. If you have Yamaha power, I would use their products. I use their fuel conditioner/stabilizer @ 1 ounce per 3 gallons during normal season running. For storage, they recommend 1 ounce per gallon. I always add ring free @ 1 ounce per 10 gallons. Just to play...

    New member with a question

First of all, congrats on your boat purchase. We are on our second Grady and really enjoy her. Since you are on the Chesapeake, I would try BOE Marine near Annapolis, MD. www.boemarine.com I have bought several items from them over the years (mostly Garmin) and their prices are among the...
