I should have qualified my statement better. I actually didnt have much trouble with the OMC outdrive itself. It was the engine,shifting mechanism and the horrible exhaust design that really turned me off to the IO drives.I agree replacing an IO with outboards isnt going to be cost effective...

I had a Grady White Offshore with a Cobra outdrive. I had such bad experiences with it Ill most likely never have another boat with an IO. The new outboards are so good now Im not sure there is a reason to go IO anymore.

i know this a grady forum but if you want something similiarly equipped to the islander and new take a look at the hydra sports 2500 vx.

They still carry the Journey 258 which is in between the 232 and 290.

Funny I just talked to the local Grady dealer about the Islander line being dropped. He told me that after loading up an Islander and a Sailfish they were so close in price most people opted for the Sailfish.

Listening to Sal it sounds like the 200s where okay? But the smaller one not so good. Funny the Islander with th 175s have like 600 hours on them. I cant imagine someone would want to keep them tah long if they wer etrouble.

Funny you should say that as I found it odd also. I dont seee alot of those motors around either. They both have some hours on them so they must at lest run a little awhile. The other two islanders I found both had Yamahas on them. One a single OX 66 the other twin Saltwater Series 2.
