Installing a Garmin GPSMAPS 1042 xsv plotter on my 248 and only parts available for me since my location is auto parts stores or mail order, looking for the relay for the alarm warning 100mA 12Vdc that Garmin doesn’t carry so the question is has anyone crossed this to a relay that they used on their plotter, part number or manufacturer would be a plus

Looks like it's for anchor radius.

Anchor Alarm on a Garmin Marine Device

Several Garmin chartplotters allow a user to set an anchor drag alarm to sound when the vessel exceeds a specified drift distance while anchored, this is especially helpful anchoring at overnight. It is important to know that when setting the alarm, the GPS location for the alarm is based on the location of the chartplotter, not the location of the anchor. The radius is set by the user from preset options to a custom distance.

Installing an external alarm to my marine chartplotter/sounder

Alarm relays are always required when using a horn and/or a lamp that draws amperage values of greater than 100mA. While it is possible to perform a temporary test of the horn/lamp without the use of a relay, please do not attempt if you are not completely aware of the amperage values of the installed equipment. Failure to follow this guideline can lead to permanent damage to the connecting chartplotter, as they are not equipped to handle amperage values above 100 mA. If damage should occur, Garmin will require the device to be sent in for an out of warranty repair.

To connect the alarm for testing purposes:

· Connect the Alarm VDC+ wire to the Positive (+) Power

· Connect the Alarm VDC- wire to the Garmin Alarm Wire

When the Garmin activates an alarm state, the alarm wire will create a low voltage (ground) signal that will complete the circuit, causing the alarm to activate. When you're satisfied with the results, please be sure to remove this connection.

If a relay needs to be purchased, they can commonly be found at local electronics or auto parts stores. Relays can also be purchased online using the search terms “100mA relay 12Vdc” on any common search engine (Google, Bing, etc.).

I just back mine up with my iPhone anchor pro app. Seems to work great I’ve tested it several times. Keep it next to the bed and if necessary plugged in for battery life.

ok I looked at the install pdf so its just adding an external horn/light to the built in alarm horn and on-screen alarms.
I can hear the built in alarm well enogh anywhere on my 265.
I guess I understand if you are sleeping you might need one in the cabin.
I had never looked at that before....I don't imagine many people use it.

My problem is when something starts beeping at the helm I can't tell what unit the alarm is coming from! Could be a Yamaha engine alarm, a Garmin alarm or an Icom radio alarm. On my high water alarm I installed a bell type. It would be great if the manufactures made them settable.
