Right now my (new to me) 2004 180 has the original tiny sonar unit's transducer screwed to the transom. I am considering trim tabs since it has a Honda 150 and I'd like to clean up the transom when I go to a 9-10" Garmin.
I'm fishing in LI Sound, maximum depth around 300, mean depth 63, average depth I'll be fishing probably 20'-50.
At the Rockland show I spoke with the Garmin rep and asked about an in hull mount (drill hole in bilge). He said it would work fine but said for my use I would be better served with a "shoot thru hull", epoxied in the bilge. Cheaper, no hole and would be fine for those depths.
Anyone have experience with shoot thru hull transducers?
thanks,
Rob
