Hey everyone nnew to this forum and also first time Grady owner.
I purchased this 1980 Tarpon 190 last week from a private seller who i assumed took great care of it.
I put it in the water sat and it fired right up and we took off. About 2 miles away from the ramp i slowed down for some water skiers and she stalled and never started again. After replacing the battery i can hear the engine spinning but it will never fire up.
i also put in 8 1/2 gallons of 50:1 ratio in the 30 gallon tank and only ran it 2 miles. When turning the boat key the gas tank says empty and the ball never gets firm. My thought is maybe my driveway was sloping downward and the gas tank that is in the bow was angled to read empty? any ideas?

Need some more info here. What motor are you running (year/make/hp) etc). Is it setup for a premix or does it still have oil injection and you are just playing it safe? If it is carb'd, simply put some gas into a spray bottle and spray some fuel into the carbs (not a lot) and see if it will fire. This will determine that the engine has ignition/spark and will fire on strait fuel and you have too much oil in your premix or you simply are not getting fuel for some reason.

If this doesn't work, pull all the wires off the plugs and check for spark. Could be a bad coil, or simply bad plugs.

Your fuel tank reading/sender is a separate issue. If you know you have fuel in the tank, there's fuel in the tank.

I've seen it where the primer bulb gets hard and it doesn't get hard. Only way to check it if it is working correctly is to remove it put one finger on the incoming, squeeze and put another finger on the outgoing side. If the bulb stays compressed it's ok. You make have a leak elsewhere in your fuel setup where it's sucking air.
