:noob Hi, new member here. I have an 86 Sailfish. I want to inspect the main-forward-gas tank. It looks like I just need to unscrew about 20 screws on the deck and pull the cover off. However it looks like there is caulking also? Is there more to removing this deck plate? When I replace it should I caulk it?

TIA

Yes, filling the seams will be necessary upon replacing the fuel compartment hatch cover. Carefully removing the old caulk from the mating surfaces is labor intensive, but will ensure a waterproof seal. I use ordinary silicone to facilitate hatch removal in the future. There may be some rubber strips which serve as gaskets (sort of) which need cleaning or replacing.

Thanks. I really appreciate the info. I think I will hold off for a couple of weeks until I have a little more time.

Thanks again!
