I am looking at buying a 1992 25 sailfish. It has twin 150 yamaha 2 strokes 1996 i have done a sea trial on this boat and at 4500 RPM it does right around 35 to 37 mph. Is this boat uder-powered with the 150s? also how does this boat handle offshore is it sea worthy? I am i south carolina and the stream is a good 60 miles out will this be a good boat to run out and back. All information about this model will be helpfull thanks.

My boat is a 92 also. your speed at 4500 rpm is faster than Grady's test data for your boat new with carbureted 200's. Was that taken with gps? If your boat has not had updates your due for a few. All thru hulls and hoses need to be replaced. The bulkhead at the cabin entrance is usually rotted on the bottom. The decks over the fuel tanks usually need to be re-cored. And fuel tanks and hoses are due if original. I don't know of a 92 or newer with less than 200's. When things get nasty you may want that additional 100 hp. It's a great boat and I would buy mine over again in a minute. In my opinion this one is a little underpowered, probably because someone got a deal on those 150's. With my old 200's I got about 1mpg in normal running. Most people here would agree a survey is a good idea. good luck with your search!

I'd pass, the pre'90's were OK with the 150 but the post 90's weight more.

35-37 mph isn't bad at all...my sailfish likes to cruise at the 25-30 range without getting beat up........how much faster do you want to go?
