Hi,
I've got a (new to me) 2002 282 SF that has 2 areas of yellowing that I'm curious about. The first area is around the starboard side stern cleat. The whole area around this cleat is a yellowish color almost like someone did some fiberglass work and it didn't match right (There doesn't appear to be any work done, since I can see the underside and the yellowing is not consistent with a repair and there's no apparent edges.)
The second area is on the outside hull, where it seems the previous owner had a fender between the boat and the dock. There's a strip about 6' long and about 8-10" wide that's yellowed.

Any idea what is the cause or how to get rid of it short of painting? Is this common with these boats?

Thanks,
Bob

I have that on my boat in several places where I know work was done. In my case, the "yellowed" part is the cream color that the boat was when new. The whiter part on the whole rest of the boat is what the cream faded to. I talked to the guy who did the work and he said he used "Grady" color. Compare the yellowed part to gelcoat under the edge of the hatches that got no sun. You may also see this under the decals.

This is yellow, not Grady tan. There are sections of the boat that are not faded (under the enclosure) and this is defintely not that color. I'm going to try some fine grit sand paper to see if it's just on the surface.

Bob - I finally remembered to take a photo of what I was trying to describe in my response to your post. That is, wherever my boat was worked on, the colors don't match. (The previous owner had reportedly kissed a few too many pilings.)
