Just had a cracked port side deck drain to scupper hose replaced. I inquired about checking the starboard side hose and was informed there was zero access to this hose without cutting in an access hole. Anyone offer up an alternative??? Seems pretty drastic just for an inspection.

I'm commenting just so I get notice of responses. I'm looking at buying a 282 and this would be good to know. Thanks and good luck.

I was told by Grady to cut an access hole
on the starboard rear euro transom swim platform side wall, to get access to the deck scupper drains and the through hulls on that side.

You can also, cut a hole into the deck of the euro transom swim platform. I’m contemplating that idea, because I also want to add a better dive ladder to the boat. With the acces hole in the deck, I’ll have access to add a backing plate for the dive ladder’s transom mount.

Such a shame for a three foot section of hose, but it may just allow for bigger and better things to be added to the boat, now that I have to perform some surgery.

I have heard from several people with several similar models that a new access hole is needed to replace that hose.

Thanks for all of your responses.
I refuse to cut a hole just to check the condition of the hose.
The hose is less than 2' long, to check for leaks Im going to plug the scupper end and pour a measured amount of water down the deck end. Unplug the supper and measure what comes out. If there's a measured discrepancy then I'll cut the hole.

Your approach to see if the hoses are leaking is sound, but note that you can reach under the deck via the spaces between the house battery and the side bilge wall to get a picture of the drains and hoses. You’ll need to use flash to get a clearer view.

just did all 4 hoses on my 2003 270 islander this past spring and believe me you want to replace yours. one of mine was leaking but all 4 crumpled when touched. I cut a hole on the flat behind the transom door n put an 8 inch pie plate. I tell anyone that asks, if your boat is more then 10 years old ya gotta check cause its better then the boat sinking.
